Mass production of MMOs is kind of turning me off anything PWE.

Another new asian free to play game, yay !
no...

why can't Perfect World actually focus their resources into one giant game instead of dozens of other FTPs that all essentially have the same basic core style.
It's like coming out with a new CoD every year,
Nothing is really different.

Because P2W is a burn out mechanic; you bleed 'em till they quit the game and move on to something else ...

solution #1 would be to reign in your cash shop policies of customer milking so that your games don't constantly suffer population atrophy, potentially resulting in a dedicated following of customers that eventually spend more money in the long run.

solution #2 is to release swarms of titles each year, that way you statistically stand a good chance of re-trapping the burnt out players of one game with another title (as well as potentially netting some of the "floaters" that have been burnt out by another company's P2W bull shit).

... guess which one PWI decided was a better idea.

say what you will about Nexon's customer support (I haven't had any problems myself) but it's rare to hear about someone rage quitting due to a Nexon cash shop issue.

And yet another crappy Asian MMO that will have a grand total of TWO Westerners who play and zero ounces of innovation.

Why does Massively insist on publishing these "stories"? Is PWE giving them kickbacks? *sigh*

I strongly disagree with most of your narrow minded opinions, but I'm fairly sure Massively's (and all of Joystiq's sites for that matter) coverage scales proportionally to funding ... multiplied by how notorious the event.

I wouldn't get too hung up on it though, every day it seems like there are less and less writers / articles on here, much like the latter days of Big D.

I'm guessing that by this time next year it will only be Jeff posting, just like how it was only John posting on Big D towards the end, while everyone else will have been transferred into the main Joystiq site or let go altogether.

Whenever someone makes a remark along the lines of "yet another Asian f2p" i think of how apathetic the "other side" of the genre is, and i get sad. :(

I'm pretty sure it's because they're trying hard to avoid bias.

The Hell are you talking about? The average number of articles has increased lately, the number of writers has only ever had an upward trend, and they just hired a bunch of people just to do livestreams.

Are you confused by the fact that there's only a few articles on weekends? That's because it's the -weekend-.

And no, they don't take kickbacks. In fact, I'm pretty sure they'd get fired if they did. There was a Soapbox or something about that a while back.

@Oyjord because Massively doesn't do much actual journalism as opposed to publish press releases and opinion pieces. Once in awhile they will, Beau Hindman and Justin will do it, as well as the columnists dedicated to a game, but I'd say at least 50% are just what the game developers put out for media consumption.

@JuliusSeizure

I'm referring to the site management itself and what the writers are instructed (or maybe "encouraged") to emphasize.

I.E. there are plenty of other "mass" MMO hosters besides PWI, Bigpoint, Nexon, and G1 that announce new games and events just as much (if not more than Massively's "favorites") yet only get a blurb here and there.

That's probably more about companies bothering to tell Massively they're doing something than some directive from on high. I know Beau often complains that there's a lot of games he's never heard of until he went out deliberately trying to find something new.

I would say that they are killing themselves by putting out so many MMO's...then you look at the quality of their games and realize that the development budgets are generally pretty freaking low and operating costs aren't that expensive in general.

Fantasy Condor where you can dress up like a Giant Flamboyant bird and do Martial arts.

In game music provided by Cold Play.

My problem with PWE is that they release games with an underlying assumption that the game itself isn't anything special. It genuinely feels like "alright done with that game, time to get to work on the next." As the case with a lot of other MMOs, they announce a game with "key features" like "PET AND MOUNT SYSTEM, EXTENSIVE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT, PvP!"
These really don't get me interesting in the game.

wth ANOTHER one? Doesn't even seem like there's any reason to try it, cause if you've played any pwe game you know *exactly* what it'll be like in every sense...

Same here. I find PWI to be one of the better MMO developers out there, but I guess since they are a big Asian company, they get a big bulls-eye on them from the anti-Eastern crowd. I know nothing about this particular IP, but I'm sure it will be a fine game.

@(Unverified) STO and CO were developed without any involvement from PWI. I believe they actually bought those games later on when the original owners wanted to sell them for being failures. Since PWI started getting involved, both games have actually been getting better
