Does anyone know if this works when buying station cash from the SOE site?

Yep, looks like it. The advantage of getting a card (in case it's a question) is that you might get some special in-game items with them. From the site:

"Celebrate the holidays with Triple Station Cash on December 17, 2011 only! Buy Station Cash in-game, via your Station Account or redeem an SOE Pre-Paid Game Card and you’ll get Triple Station Cash!"

I bought 10 bucks worth! :)

Fyi, I bought the $25 package using the Steam Client and I wasn't rewarded the bonus SC. I talked to a couple of GMs and it has been moved upwards to Billing so it might get taken care of next week, but then again it might not since Steam might fall under the SMS model somehow. Just a word of warning there for anybody using that client.

Anyways though, I then bought some from the website and it worked fine. I'm actually heading out to Walmart in a little bit to buy some of their cards to use as it is a even better deal. The 1500 point cards apparently reward an extra 500 and once tripled you get 6000 points for $15 dollars. Buy two cards and you can extend your gold membership for a year for $30 dollars basically.

Kind of lame that I bought 1000 SC last week in order to buy the Flash expansion for DCUO when I could have waited a week and got +2000 SC. That would have lasted me another 2 more expansions. :(

@MtthwRddl

It pays to read the official forum.

There were hints on the DCUO forum that this was coming weeks ago.

@(Unverified) Honestly, I can't read their forum. When I go to General Discussion, I see a ton of year-old threads that have a billion pages in each of them. None of these are new discussions about current topics, just on-going discussions about topics that was brought up when the game first released or a few months afterward.

Honestly, I know these events are rare, and few and far between, but I just wish that if they know one of their expansions is coming out within a month of one of these events, at least hold the event first, so people can stock up for the upcoming expansion (that they know about) than holding it after people already spent their money on the expansion and may not have that same money for the triple SC value.

This is a PERFECT example of how horribly mismanaged SOE by the moronic bastards behind the scenes.

They could have made sooooooooooooooooooo much money if they would ahve just ANNOUNCED it. A few commercials on G4tv, an announcement on every SOE game launcher and of course, a reminder every few hours of an in-game message a day or so before the actual day of the sale.

And did anyone know of these before reading about it on this site or going on their mmos website? NOPE!

See devs need to realize that the majority of mmorpgs players, spoend the free time actually PLAYING THE GAME - rather than crying on the forums and blog sites with the vocal minority.

So yet another way for SOE to expand the budget of all its games is ruined because of that super moron we all love to hate.

Seriously though- 9/10 mmorpgs players 18+ could take over SOE for a week and probably get more players and make more money than Mark the moron can in 3-6 months or longer. Its ridiculous. Especially since they lost millions with the closing of SWG, this could have been an event to make back a decent chunk of what they are losing LOL.

FAILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

So apparently this poster didn't check the SOE forums, launchers or game pages to see this news was posted yesterday. He just wanted to be the first troll in the thread?

FYI, Buy the $15.00 cards from walmart that give you a bonus 500 station cash. When used with this triple point event, you get 6k station cash points from $15.00

FYI as a heads-up they usually run these 2x/3x bonus days/weekends around major holidays. Last times were for the 4th of July and Memorial day if I recall with one or two times thrown in just every so often as a quicky oneday grab.

Combine the approach to the major holiday of the year, the promotion of the successfully launched expansion, a major game update, the seasonal Frostfell event, the transition to f2p, and the early access program for SWTOR, and you didn't need to be a prophet to foresee this kind of initiative. Anyone who knows anything at all about SOE and their games would have seen this coming if they had had but one eye on the ball.

the promotion of the successfully launched expansion.

Umm, that may very well be a matter of opinion:) They still haven't fixed half the Velious issues, let alone release another bugged out, over priced bonus pack. Thus the reason for SC sale. Only EQ2 expansion I haven't bought and finally pushed me to SWToR. Keep up the lame, buggy content SOE.

@Annita

There may be problems still for some people with Velious, but that has nothing to do with the latest expansion the launch of which was remarkably smooth given everything else that was being handled simultaneously. I know there was some extended downtime, but even so I was pleasantly surprised how well it all went.

Um yeah, the mob dance pathing issues, all kinds of new bugs on top of all the old bugs that still haven't been fixed in years. I don't have the time or energy to post everything wrong with this game now. I really loved the game for 6 years, this last one not so much with Smokey destroying the game. I enjoy living in fantasy as well, but sometimes a reality check is nice too. Have fun in Norrath, I'm moving on to space.
