The Daily Grind: Now that all Guild Wars 2 professions are revealed, which will you play?

Earlier this week, the internet exploded with a leaked reveal of Guild Wars 2's eighth profession: the Mesmer. The official reveal soon followed, with some of the most amazing skill videos and game mechanics to ever hit an MMO class. OK, so I'm a Mesmer fanboi. Sue me.

But now that we can flip through the entire array of Guild Wars 2 professions, we're left with the question about what class to play... or play first.

Will you be burning stuff with the Elementalist, bashing stuff with the Warrior, or shooting stuff with the Ranger? Perhaps you'd like to pander to your inner kleptomaniac by playing a Thief or dance with the dead as a Necromancer. Throw in the Guardian, Engineer, and Mesmer, and it's fairly impossible to pick just one.

Well thats exactly the problem.
They are all great.
And on top of it, all the races are great too.

I am having hard time to decide.

I originally wanted to play mesmer, and elementalist.

But than they added thief, and engineer.

Real hard to decide.

I will probably start with Mesmer and thief

I'm afraid you're right. But see that's all part of ANet's diabolical plan to rip the money out of our wallets via their cash shop.

1. Make each race fun to play.
2. Make each profession fun to play.
3. Sell new character slots because 4 - 8 can never be enough.
4. ?
5. Profit.

See? Ugh.

This game is going to be an altaholic's nightmare!

def mesmer seems to fit my playstyle a lot more than the old mesmer, and guardian, those will prob be top two the rest are just slightly beneath

1 of each.

While I know I will play mesmer at some point, I think I am still set on a sylvari necromancer for the start. Something about the combination has just seemed perfect after reading the first GW2 book.

Charr Engineer, or a ranger. I'm a sucker for ranged classes that aren't wizards.

I'm mostly attracted to classes that are magic based and slightly on the unusual/unconventional side, so I'm going to be playing a norn/asura Guardian (haven't decided yet) and sylvari Mesmer. Possibly an asura Ranger.

that's an easy question... Mesmer. First class I ever played and is my main character in GW1. Regardless of playing everything else it's still my favorite. I'm sure I'll play a little of everything in GW2, that's just one way I enjoy my MMO's, but Mesmer will be my favorite again, videos are already proof of that.

I want a norn or human guardian first, then Ill give the thief or engineer a try, then lastly, the mesmer.

Didnt like mesmer is GW1, so Im gonna give it more of a chance this time around

Here is my matrix:

Male Norn Warrior
Male Asura Engineer
Female Sylvari Necromancer
Female Norn Guardian
Male Sylvari Mesmer
Female Charr Elementalist
Female Asura Ranger
Male Charr Thief

I wanted to make sure that I could have one of every profession, and a male and female of every race That is, except for humans. With only 8 classes, I don't see a reason why I would want to. (For me, humans are like choosing the white crayon in the box; I am just not sure why they are there). I also have names picked out, but they are a secret :)

I am incredibly torn on what I want to start with, but I will usually just default to the biggest Warrior I can make. That character is usually my main.

Humans in GW2 are pretty interesting, and my favorite race other than the sylvari despite the fact that I don't usually take to humans in MMOs. I dislike humans when they're basically just medieval Earth humans transplanted into a game's setting, because then it becomes obvious that they're mostly there as a "safe" choice. Fleshing them out with lore and culture and really rooting them into a setting can make them just as fascinating and alien as an asura or a sylvari. In Guild Wars, human influence has left such an indelible mark on the world that I can't imagine anything being the same without them.

I go for races out of aesthetics only, and when I look at a human, I think that it would be more fun to be another race. I don't really know why...

It would be nice if Massively can create an actual poll of this question so that we can see real numbers, and how the percentages break out.
