Wargaming.net has announced the official release of its seventh major update for World of Tanks. Crazily enough, it's called the 7.0 update, and it features a bundle of new content designed to make little tanker hearts go pitter-patter.
First up are two new game maps, the Swamp and the Fjords, and there's also a bit of tank customization in the offing thanks to new camouflage and various horn effects. Tank company levels are also being tweaked, as are the game's visual effects (including smoke, shots, and explosions that have been tuned to allow for lower system requirements).
If you've ever wanted to relive your multiplayer battles (and you don't have a copy of Fraps handy), you can now save and view replays at will. Finally, new technology will allow for users "to play on any cluster of the server group with same unified account." Head to the official site for more, and don't forget to fire up your patchers to start the update!

Horns on tanks?
Hope that isn't a jump the shark moment.

@nathanb There are "traffic jams" near chokepoints so, without a horn, drivers sometimes fire a round to get another driver's attention. At least, that is what I *believe* the "horn" is for. Another possibility is that the horn is for extra damage when ramming? ;-)

Real life tanks have horns so I see no "jump the shark moment" in regards to this. They do serve a purpose. If you are stopped while taking an aimed 1st person shot then you may not notice that you are blocking a friendly vehicle or something.

@nathanb When it comes to jumping the shark I was more worried about the adaptive camo but it seems that's not in this patch.
The sighting/Invisible tanks system is probably the most annoying mechanic in an otherwise fairly enjoyable game. I understand the purpose but it is very silly seeing tanks literally vanish in a open field just because they move 5 yards further away.
The adaptive camo system was supposed to add small bonuses to this effect, but even small bonuses to a bad mechanic is a terrible idea. Since it's not in this patch perhaps it's giving more problems than they expected and maybe the whole idea will just get dropped.
I might keep playing the game if that's the case.

@Vandal Agreed, the tanks suddenly disappearing is annoying. I'd rather see them slowly fade away and their targetting silhouette grow over the course of a few seconds.
Worse is the way tanks can suddenly appear right next to you. Last week I had several instances where that happened. A couple times I've seen walls crumble and thought it was from a shot, only to have the tank that rolled through it phase in. Another time I had a tank actually get past me despite having to had cross my line of sight to get there.

I'm surprised they kept the horns. There was some back and forth on that issue.
