What would a recent day in MMO news be without a mention of Richard Garriott? Today's entry is especially interesting in a he-said-they-said kinda way.
A few days ago, Richard Garriott spoke up on the possibility of a reincarnation of the Ultima franchise through talks "at very high levels with Electronic Arts about access to the property." But EA is now denying this claim.
EA's Jeff Brown recently told IndustryGamers in a candid interview that he's not sure what Lord British is talking about. "No one at EA is discussing partnership or licensing opportunities related to the Ultima Online franchise."
Sorry Ultima Online fans, it seem that either the talks were supposed to be confidential, or they simply didn't happen at all.

I hate to jump on the Garriot hating bandwagon but what a tool...

Apparently instead of simply being crazy he is also a complete and utter liar. Although really that isn't shocking at all.

No, no...I think it's the former...
...the beginning signs of "crazy" when one is having conversation with the other party that never happened in reality. Meaning, in Richard Garriott's reality, he was having a convesation with EA about an Ultima Online reboot. In EA's reality, that conversation never took place. Hence a potential thought disorder on Richard Garriott's behalf. Or in more popular language, halfway to crazy town.
Now it could be that the conversation did take place, but Garriott foolishly over stepped the NDA on it. Thus forcing EA to make a denile...
...but way Garriott is going on about other things of late, it makes me wonder if his verson of reality is infact going offline. :(

Don't think Garriot has money or developers ready atm to create worthy succesor so nothing is lost :/
Facebook succesor of UO would NOT be good.
Besides UO was invented by 2 other guys, Garriot joined and backed up their idea he did not invented UO himself.

"Ultima Online is the product of Richard Garriott's idea for a fantasy game involving several thousand people who can all play in a shared fantasy world. There were a number of prior games that allowed hundreds of people to play at the same time, including The Realm Online, Neverwinter Nights (the AOL version), and Meridian 59; however, Ultima Online was intended to be a significant improvement over the previous games, both graphically and in game mechanics. The initial team was composed of Garriott, Starr Long, Rick Delashmit and, a bit later Raph Koster, who became the lead designer for the project." (from Wiki, for what it's worth).

Space Men are really the best-positioned people to deliver Space Ramblings, when you think about it.

It could be that EA doesn't know what their talking about. Or simply neither know what they are talking about. lol
But knowing EA, if a new UO is made, the company would probably kill any reputation it had into the ground like they did with Sims and most likely Command and Conquer.

We should treasure Richard Garriott. Yes, he is an egomaniac, and is quite possibly insane, but he's more entertaining than 99% of the bland big name designers.
Go, Lord British!
