Agreed Brendan, the new nebulae/warp tunnel effect have really lent new life to this old beast of a game.

Although you failed to mention the engine trails. As a fan of interceptors, my ships have never looked more dynamic ;)

These days I'm finding it very hard to decide between survival or Ctrl + F9 lol

Brendan, you're saying graphics are great, improved, shiny and blah, blah, blah, but... who cares? 12yo kids playing WoW, with mental disorder and Twilight fans (which are the same) are saying that all the time. It's not a good article 'cause it brings no news about actual changes in Eve and, what's the most important, about CCP's admiting their mistakes by their recent actions.
If you are so impressed by this 'sparkliness' you should consider yourself a bad person and a huge Twilight, Justin Bieber, or both, fan.

P.S.
Prepare to be ganked!

@veritasdeus Leaving room for imagination (Wasteland, TRPG, Roguelikes, Text MUDs) is a good thing. Having visual themes and effects that add to the aesthetics of the game are great(i.e. Okami). Visual effects that makes no sense only makes the game worse.

These changes in Crucible both fix immersion shattering artifacts (warp through planets, seriously) and contribute to the overall aesthetics. "Missing shots" is actually a useful visual indicator for the amount of DPS your ship is avoiding, so you didn't even do the research. All these visual changes can only be a good thing.

The new graphics are just spectacular. As you say, Brendan, it renews so much of what was old.

My favorite aspect of this whole situation is the unique lighting and backdrops that emerge within specific systems. You get "used" to how things look in one system, but gain a whole new perspective on lighting and the illumination of nebulae even by warping one system over. It's a really stunning effect.

Eye candy is good and all but more important is the horrid UI. Has it been changed any in this latest expansion?

Problem is after resubbing for 30 days, they are going to realize EVE is still the same "gank for the lulz because there isn't any other enduring reason to."Or "join a corp and do the same crap over and over again, either mining rocks or going on two hour blob roams looking for single ships to gank."

No one is going to do a lot of the things that made EVE unique anymore because the community are idiots and we see how they ended. No banks, people rob them. No CVA or "neutral" nullsec because people forced them out of it. No big scams because people aren't going to trust people enough any more to risk them. It's just gonna be forum warfare and the big powerblocks ganking each other for the lulz.

@Dblade

You know there are people who like ganks for lulz and forum warrioring, just because their definition of fun doesn't conform to your norms doesn't mean their little niche in the sun should be reformed to the same vanilla flavors that are prolific in most MMOs out there. Some would argue that it's better that they are getting these lulz in a game than somewhere else.

Banks aren't going to work unless CCP puts in actual regulation. The urge to be Bernie maddoff is just too big because it's human nature to be greedy.

CVA has reestablished it's neutral nullsec more or less, although it tends to cower at the sight of big alliance fleets moving thru providence. It's war with Against ALL Authorities taught CVA an important lesson, don't poke a sleeping bear with a stick. CVA's initial loss was its own fault for letting pride get in the way of realpolitik (refusing to capitulate to a large power bloc). But arguably that's what makes the game fun and unique because hotheads can lead to strategic miscalculations resulting in years of effort going up in smoke hilariously.

Power blocs can and do gank each other for lulz but they can also fight because of srs bns which makes wars much more interesting because of the stakes and the testosterone on each side. Some people enjoy this, leave their dystopia alone!

Incredible? Most feature heavy? Essentially this is a giant bundle of bug fixes with some eye candy thrown in.

Now, I like the new CCP attitude. But lets be realistic about it - they only had three months to make a difference, they fixed a lot of small things in a hurry - and thats it. The only thing that allows to call this an expansion, rather then a service pack, are the 4 new battlecruisers.

If CCP maintains its focus, it might release a real expansion in half a year. I hope they do. Let's not set our standards of incredible too low :)

This expansion renewed EVE Online. Only a very small number of bittervets are ranting, but EVE is back to his former glory. 50k players in universe is awesome.

We can't forget the upcoming Militia and Assault Frigates buff in the coming months.

"Warping through a planet is an equally big visual treat"
This is the best improvement of this expansion, IMO.

Doesn't matter, just a font change is not enough to fix the UI, not enough for me to re-sub anyway.

Yes very "NICE" and given the dismal previous Incarna, this is great BUT..
this work was done in a few weeks, I wonder what could have been done in a few months.. i so regret we wont see that.. not the future .....

Crucible was fixes, updates a POCO tweak to sell DUST and 4 new ships...

Now the actual game play... that's what needs creativity!!
Yes people cry about changes, some win some loose, that's the name of the game in Eve, suck it up and make the game play better!

oh yeah.. and again, I love the graphics then game play, in that order.

"If you only do one thing in EVE this week, get into a cheap frigate and go for a tour around the new galaxy."

^^ this

Worth noting is that when using a bridge, the new warp line effect also points to the destination star, just like on a gate fire. Makes going to get rich or shoot someone just a bit more enjoyable.
