Sony Online Entertainment is pulling out all the stops when it comes to the courtship of EverQuest II's new free-to-play constituency. In a post on the game's official boards, producer Dave "Smokejumper" Georgeson has announced that both free and silver-level players are now eligible for the fantasy title's extensive veteran rewards program.
Georgeson's post is short and to the point as he briefly outlines SOE's approach. "There are a lot more [payment] options available to folks, and it just doesn't make sense that a free or silver player shouldn't be able to accumulate veteran rewards," he explains. You can view both the announcement post and a feedback thread on the official EQII forums.

Well, I intended to try the game now, but have been "whiling" away my time waiting on SWTOR with Wizard101 (Yeah, I know, "kiddie game" ;P).
This makes me want to try EQ2 even stronger, but atm, I am alright with finally experiencing Wizard101. (Did you know there is ALOT of voicework in this MMO? While it may not have a fully developed, character-driven story, it does have VO work over the text. Kinda an interesting tidbit that people seemed to have missed! However, I am only in the starting stages, but I am pretty sure it does go on for most of the game; picked up an interview with the lead of Blue Oyster Cult and he said he lent his vocal talents to one quest recently for an expansion.)

That's pretty impressive that they've made the veteran rewards effective retroactive to the date of account creation. It actually means that someone who subscribed for just a month back when the game first launched can come back now as f2p and immediately get the full collection of veteran rewards. Very generous!
If it had been me, I would only have counted months during with you've logged into the game. That makes me a Grinch compared to SoE. :P
