@JayDay

My point was that other MMOs offer rather long grace periods to their customers, as should Bioware/EA. I gather from your response that you had trouble understanding that :) Hope I cleared it up for you.

The thing is, if the retailer ships the item to arrive on launch day you are essentially at the mercy of the delivery system -- during the final rush before Christmas, no less. UPS during that week delivers as late as 7:00 pm rather than the usual 5:00 pm. If you are unlucky enough to be near the end of the route and the delivery is scheduled for launch day the result is that for the vast majority of the day you will have been unable to log into the game despite having pre-ordered.

For all you folks who live in places where there are midnight launches or who can get to a store earlier in the day, that really won't affect you. But some of us live in places where the closest retailer is an hour or more away. We rely on Amazon and the like. We have no choice in the matter.

Hopefully when Reid says "in good time for launch day" he means that the packages are being planned for delivery to homes on the 19th. Somehow, I doubt that's the case, though. And this is ultimately why many people are upset about not having a one or two day grace period. It virtually guarantees that even if the package arrives on launch day you're still going to spend a good chunk of that day waiting on the shipper rather than enjoying the game.

I'd image they're paid to put these types of articles up, dont confuse this site with unbiased journalism or unpaid articles ;)

I don't know about the accuracy of that survey. At the time I had voted my intent was to play a Male Sith Pureblood Sith Inquisitor Dark Side Tank as my main. I have since changed that. At launch I will be a Male Miraluka Jedi Consular Dark Side Healer.

I'm sure a lot of people have changed their minds about what they want to play ince the NDA dropping and participation in Beta weekends since this survey was initially posted.

OK, here´s for those who´re having problems with the lack of the grace period.
This is what I did to go around this whole shit while living in a foreign country that not only doesn´t have access to pre-order but also isn´t on the list of countries where it will be launched.

First I ordered from Amazon, got that frigging huge price if delivered to my address plus delivery time. Got a friend of mine from my ex-Rifts guild in the US, asked to change the deliver to her address, got an OK. That dropped what I was going to pay from 189 U$ to 64. Gifted my friend with a copy since its the nice thing to do when someone saves you 120+ U$.

Got the news of this no grace period, went to the Amazon site and changed delivery to release date, strange enough that cut me 4 U$ from the final price... profit? Seems that whatever deal they´re making with online retailers includes a discount on "on release" delivery, so go check it out.

Can no one play any game and not be so critical of it? I have a feeling that people are missing out on good games just because their definition of a game somehow doesn't meet their expectations.
The developers had to leave a feature out at launch that they will be exploring and working on in the future. They didn't say, we just cut this feature and left it at that. They explained what happened and what they were doing. That's better than most games.
Same goes for Grace Period although that wasn't explained as well however I believe that they had good reasons for not doing them that they can't go into.
Games and Game Companies all have their flaws and I feel quite a few are nit-picking over minor details that won't matter in the end when the game is launched.

Why did I instantly think of Blizzard? ;)

So, I preordered on Amazon and live in australia. I havent actually payed anything yet - if I use internet trickery to pass as a US IP address can I just buy a digital code at launch and use that?

Quick FYI, the forums are down until the 13th (early launch date). So, the links in this article just go to a page saying "No post for you! Come back, 13th!" (yes, done to the voice of the classic Seinfeld character).

I'm not really impressed with a lot of the armor pieces I've seen for any of the classes yet, which I hope changes over time. I also really hope they will work on some of the graphics clipping issues this game seems to have. They are everywhere, and they're even shown in the video at the beginning. Some folks won't care/notice but to me it drives me bonkers. Especially when it happens during cut scenes in a close up.
