If you're already looking forward to the start of ArcheAge's fourth Korean closed beta test, XLGAMES has a new gameplay video that will probably launch your excitement level into the stratosphere. Though it's a short clip, it boasts a lot of siege footage (including some spiffy shots from above as player-controlled hang-gliders fly over the action). We also get a brief look at a few of the game's combat spells as well as PvE clashes with a couple of sizable boss monsters.

Whilst the combat is nothing new, I do like some of the effects, especially that ice spell that froze a player in mid-jump/animation. :)

Awesome. Combat is very stylish looking, and I like the effects. Those hang gliders though...I'm gonna have a hard time staying on the ground long enough to get any fighting done...

Gliders possibly will allow only for temporary time in air - they are afaik not like flying mounts when you can travel on big / unlimited distances.
Propably also you will have to glide not fly, so from higher ground to lower. Not like getting off the ground and clibm up to fly over moutnains , forests.

That's what I expect, and I'm fine with it. More than fine, actually, as it means there'll be more skill involved in proper use of a glider than there would be a simple mount for transportation.
Do I want to be part of an elite glider corps that specializes in tactical use of them for infiltration and support? Hell yes I do. That last CBT4 video that showed the pirate infiltrators using an air strike to get in over the walls showed -exactly- what I'm looking for.

Still walls in keeps should mean something so imho while gliding players should be targetable and preety vunerable, so either you do 'covert ops' or die painfully :)
Cause otherwise conventional sieges won't make sense, just zerg glide over wall and fight inside.

It looked like the character in the video got hit a few times, so I'm pretty sure gliders will be prone to getting taken down if not used carefully. They also seem to require a place to launch from, so unless you have an airship handy that passes overhead, they'll be mostly useless for attacking anything that either lacks that vulnerability, or has it well-guarded.

@smartstep ANTI AIR SIEGE DEFENSE! I guarantee it will be in!!!! They have made strong emphasis on siege weapons and siege defense wepaons already in interviews and videos. Remember, when you are gliding and you take damage, your glider fails immediately and you fall like a meteor. And fall damage in AA currently hurts BAAADLY.

I was LOLing at that myself.
It's sorta a "Lone Wolf and Cub/Typical Samurai cutting at straw" scene. The "bucket" he wears is probably supposed to emulate the "straw hat disguise".

I'm so fascinated by this game. Although I sure don't speak Korean, what tid bits we do get to see round here get me excited. I like the art style, the animations look fantastic, like the sandbox (or sandpark) elements, like the ideas of crafting, ship building, climbing trees etc etc.
A lot of really neat ideas around the corner.
I just wish the start ups out here in the West would take a risk on this project and stop opening a new Facebook/Mobile game company every six months...

Wait, what? They're not currently planning to do a western release? This game has been getting media coverage in western markets for a couple of years now and it's not being released in the west? Why are we seeing so much about it then?!

"A couple of years" is over-exaggeration; we just heard about it this year and maybe even last year.
As for the statement, focus on the word "public" and that's your answer. Massively already reported XLGames' partnership with a western studio 2-3 months ago. The fact they haven't announced anything "publically" doesn't mean they aren't developing plans "privately".

There is no western publisher. None of the publishers that do MMOs seem to be willing to invest in a sandbox MMO and those are probably can't afford to pay for this one.
I mean, Tencent paid $40million for the rights to publish this in China, I imagine the western license is probably a similar amount.

Fear not, usually these Korean games go through the process of CBT and OBT and then release in their own side of the world and then are announced to be release for EU and NA.
That is the case with Tera, it is already been out for a while in Korea and if i am not mistaken it is what happen with Aion and that is why Aion patches are released in Korea far before here.

I can't speak for other outlets but I write about it every chance I get because A) I've played it and it kicks ass, and B) I want as many western gamers as possible to be aware of it in the hopes that XL will release it over here.

The combat looks exactly like King's Quest 6. You swing, you hit sothing...and i even imagine you have to use a mousebutton, keystroke, or gamepad button. What is up with all the Kings Quest copycats nowadays?
