@Resurge Oh yeah, it really ruined it. I LOOVEED sitting in cities putting together groups only to have a person drop mid-way through, hearthing, getting another person and praying the group stayed until the end. Such a fantastic process filled with glee.

It only got better once you realized the person didn't even have the gear to properly heal/tank/dps after you were at the first boss. Or the fact someone would win a loot piece only to conveniently disconnect and halt progress. Those were the days!

Get real, dude. LOTRO is simply implementing one of the most streamlined systems to MMO's that has ever been introduced. Good on them.

@Resurge Part of Warcraft's problem is that, with a lowest common denominator design philosophy, there's a lot of bottom of the barrel people. I'm not saying LOTRO is devoid to asshats, but they're a much smaller percentage of the population -- at least from my experience.

If they en up supporting all the older instances, it could, and would, be quite awesome. I hated forming groups for a lot of the older instances, like the Barrow Downs.

I'm looking forward to it. I play LotRO, not WoW, and on my server people are generally kind and respectful. Just because the (cross-server) dungeon finder in WoW highlighted the general d-baggery of its player-base doesn't mean it's going to do the same in LotRO.

If you don't like the instance finder, continue to run instances with your regular groups, like you always have.

The Instance Finder is a nice tool, but it is only half-developed. The last I checked, it will not search for raids, specific instances, under maximum level instances, or people who are on your ignore list. It has a tendency to pick disliked instances on multiple attempts. There is also the problem of oddball teams - healer, dps, and support (no tank).

I think the heart of the problem isn't finding people willing to run instances, but finding instances with a better reward system. Skirmish raids suddenly became popular because they were perhaps the easiest way to obtain high rewards. If they allowed a system where even Moria & Mirkwood instances were to drop maximum level rewards, then you would see more groups running those.

The article specifically states that it's unfinished and that they'll be adding things like being able to choose specific instances with Update 6.

For now, I think it has a very nice place and is by no means a waste of resources. I'm happy to have these features now, even though we'll need to wait until the next update for the rest of the system.

The problem here is that they always release half-arsed features dubbed "beta" and promise that it will have an update soon or upcoming or next update. Turbine has a lack of commitment when it comes to a new feature.

Still waiting on updated housing, kinship features, hobbies, LUA, etc.. Need a better example, look no further than their "Beta Forums" which have been beta for over a year now.

Regardless of the mechanic used to help gamers find one another for whatever reason the main theme ignorant socialites, raiders or any other labled hardcore players cant seem to wrap their heads around is to watch their own lanes and not be busy bodies always wondering or worrying what the person next to them is doing and why.

There is also the laughable argument created by other busybodies that feel a person should play any game the way they do. Feeling any type of auto group mechanic, dungeon finder, group finder, whatever you want to call it is anti social. To these people i simply suggest crawl out of your basement and actually get social in real life with actual human contact, not the internet.

I still both love the ease of use these tools provide but hate how MMO's are slowing stripping away the community aspects in favor of the instant gratification crowd.

MMO's ar eno longer about chilling with buddies and knocking down some digital monsters, its all about getting in getting your gear/emblem/coin/etc and getting out to do it again as quickly as possible.

I think these trends are whats driven me towards sandbox games such as EVE, there is not feeling of forced progression or push towards mind numbing grinds with hapless randoms you'll never see/speak to again.

@Skyydragonn I'll disagree (slightly) with that. If a dungeon finder is set to be server only, then it's a good way to randomly meet or /ignore other people in "your world." What killed Warcraft's community was making it server cluster wide. Grouping with random people you'll never see again is a great way to foster anti-social behavior.

Honeslty, I don't think even making the LFD tool cross-server was in of itself a bad idea. It was that combined with the fact that there there was no other support for cross server communication. Pretty much all you can do is put someone from another server on your ignore list, and I don't even know if that actually keeps you from getting grouped with them again.

If you run into someone you like, chances are you'll never meet them again. You can't whisper people from other servers once the group is over. You can't put them on your friends list. You can't form groups with them so you can do more dungeons together . Nothing. People complain about how the LFD ruined the WoW community (implying it wasn't terrible before, but that's another topic); but what do you expect when Blizzard gives no tools that encourage and allow people to make friends with players from other servers?

@Lucidus They changed that a few months ago. You can still get "randoms" from other servers but it usually groups you with at least 2-3 from your own.

I beta tested and played the game for 3 years. Turbine can keep what they turned into nothing but a micro-transaction game.

Like it or not a lot of people left and attendance is down even with the launch of RoI. It's a shell of its former self.

@JayDay Agree completly. I seriously get sad and upset when I think of Shadows of Angmar, lol. I -loved- that game. In my mind, the current LOTRO does not resemble it in any way - and that's a bad thing.

While things such as the instance finder makes it easier to find groups it also kills any sense of community in a game. The odds are that the random people you get are people you will never run into again. Thus it creates a sense of annonymity making people behave in the worst way possible.

First in a random group people often donĀ“t even say hello to one another. They are more likely to insult one another, loot steal, leave and so on.
