"Today marks the official re-launch of the crime MMO on Steam, and I've been spending entirely too much time with the game, rediscovering why I both loved and hated the original version."

I don't see this game on steam anywhere.

"Still some hacker issues"

Hacking/cheating in a mmog is totally binary for me. Let me know when the game is cheat free...but it sounds like the game's server/client infrastructure will make that impossible.

A sad waste of a game if that's the case.

@jimr9999us

AHAHAHAHAHA.

Okay, seriously, name one online game where no one ever hacks, bots or otherwise exploits the system to cheat. Just one.

Keeping it mostly cheater free is as good as it gets.

Hackers and the fact you can just pay to win. Drove me away from this game. I was almost tempted to buy hacks. Then I realized I could just use that money to play a better game.

From the official forums:
"Expect APB:Reloaded to appear on steam at some point in the next 24hrs."
This was about 9 hrs ago.

Anyway, I still think Counter-Strike is the best mmo, if you catch my meaning.

This game was flushed for a reason, great concepts and terrible execution.

They also just fired a ton of AB:R staff from gamers first which has a very very soft if at all existent hand against hackers.

@(Unverified) Being one of the people that was "fired" (actually we got laid off, there is a difference), I think it is important to note that the company restructured its publishing end, which is where ALL the lay offs happened. The Dev team is growing.

The layoffs were "company restructuring" in the truest sense of the term. G1 made the decision to focus on development and that is what they are doing.

The game needs to just die. It's been in development hell for too many years. I was in the original beta from October 2009 to June 2010 and I can't believe that in 2 years since then, there still haven't been any new maps. Before the beta, RTWs said they were going to keep updating the game and keep adding new modes but from what I've read here, it's still the same game from then. I checked the game out earlier this year to see if it had improved but to me it didn't feel like a significant change.

APB always seems to have been a game with so much potential but ultimately wasted. The customisation is still really amazing but the rest of the game is less so.

@(Unverified). "The game needs to just die"? So because you don't like it, thousands of other people shouldn't be allowed to play it? Just the kind of nonsense I would expect from someone who cant even verify their Joystiq account.

@Snichy

They are indeed allowed to play it. Just expect about everyone to eventually share a similar viewpoint about the game being a disaster, infested, slow to respond, ill-conceived updates, slow developments, and promises left unfulfilled. In the end, the majority rather see it terminated to save others the aggravation and the wasting of their time on such a game that has little hope of recovery.

this was supposed to be GTA online in spirit. It's nowhere near that. I play CoD:MW3 on my PS3 for what this game offers with less hassle and better support and just better all around gameplay. Game was dead when they took away or didn't add the sandbox characteristics that makes the GTA games so great.

Bots are everywhere. But WoW, Rift, W:AoR, and LotRO pvp have all been hack free from my experience.

So that's my baseline. Sorry if your experiences are different.

You need to play this game with friends, preferably on a teamspeak or similar program(ingame VOIP sucks horribly). Otherwise, you'll rage and lose interest quickly. There's fun to be had, but you aren't always gonna get it.

I went back to try it again, but the controls... they're so damn clunky, and trying to map them to my controller was a complete nightmare. After about an hour of trying to drive with mouse and keyboard, then another hour of trying to get the controller configured, I gave up. With a decent support for either, it might be fun, but til there is, I won't bother again.

A good article but I think doesn't quite highlight the improvements that were made in the last few months to prevent hacking. It has improved greatly and whilst there are still some cheating going on, its not nearly as bad as it used to be or as bad as people on these forums want people to think. I don't play it any more and am waiting for some more content to be implemented but once it is, I will certainly go back and play again as once you get over the steep learning curve, it can be very rewarding (without having to spend anything).

P.S. Jon (Neume), sorry it was you that was laid off, you're efforts to progress the game were appreciated.

I was playing the Open Beta for a while and initially it was fun as I could log on for 20min, do a couple of missions and log off. After a while I got sick of the same maps, aim bots and pay to win nature. Seriously, store bought guns are really nasty! Also think I just got over it really quickly. If you love GTA though this might keep you entertained for a few weeks.
