CCP f*d up expansions badly 3 (5?) times in a row with un-finished Incarna and now with Crusible: as high-sec/WH C4 carebear only changes I could see were +4 blob-PvP-specced ships to 150+ I already had. Meaning - nothing new for me and many other players. And it's right before SWTOR release. No wonder eve-offline.net show new drop in amount of players + as far as I know up to 25-30% of existing EVE players pre-ordered SWTOR and may leave the game in 2-3 weeks: I'm talking about 3500 player strong EVE alliance which already filled SW guild till its 500-accounts limit and almost filled second 500-ppl guild as well. And SW didn't even started yet!

As owner of 3 frozen EVE accounts I hope this won't end up with CCP filing for bankruptcy along with their World of Vampires and DUST123-something projects...

@Pasha I don't think you realize how dedicated many eve players are. I pre-ordered TOR and am extremely excited for it (been waiting over 2 years for it) and i'm still going to play eve. Don't forget about how many eve players pay for the game soley through buying in game plex. I don't think it will affect Eve as much as you think. It will to some degree, but not to an extreme.

@Pasha Where are you getting these statistics from?

I agree with you however, there are little changes to the mining profession.

Think you mentioned SWTOR and your accounts before. Never seen double posting on 2 different threads, nice one.

@Pasha This expansion brings massive improvements for everyone. It is the best release in 2 years.

I wouldn't say current EvE numbers are entirely unreasonable given the amount of AAA games released in the last six weeks. I can't recall such a bumper release period like this in a long time, and I don't think it reflects the actual number of subscribers.

I too have pre-ordered SW:TOR, and it will be something I really enjoy playing for a long time. But it will never replace EvE. EvE is completely and utterly unique among MMO's and I will be investing a lot of time into it and having a HUGE amount of fun.

I guess that you're a minority.
Yesterday we reached the 50k peak again! That show how CCP is going to the right direction, and how we players loved this new expansion.

Even the most bittervets are coming back.
Also SWTOR = WoW in space. Nobody that playes EVE likes WoW, your EVE IS DEAD argument is invalid.

Try harder.

What 3500 strong alliance are you talking about?

Surely it is not bob/Kenny/it alliance/raiden.

Lulz?

Actually Molle's corp seems pretty active in pewing things in The Initiative, dunno if king bob himself is still active.

Too little too late for me. After 7 years, quitting EVE was a major decision that I didn't take lightly.

All the hype about the winter expansion is just that for me, hype. None of the balancing would effect me in the slightest. The "Oh Pretty" is unsubstantial fluff (to me). Frankly I think the devs are still in the same mindset that brought about Incarna they are just in appeasement mode to satisfy those stupid people that dare to question the less is more spaceships, RMT is god iplan. CCP is just ahead of the curve, and the players are just too dumb to see the genius!

R.I.P. WoDO. I doubt you'll ever see the light of day, and if by some miracle you do CCP will mismanage you so badly it'll make APB's initial launch look good by comparison.

@(Unverified) Can I have your stuff? :) It's not hype. It's a brilliant release and marks the point where EvE will now dramatically move forward. If they can do all this in six weeks (Which is what they have admitted it came down to in the end, after completely changing direction), I can't imagine what we will get in six months, but I think it will be pretty awesome.

Sorry to see a long time vet go, and hope you come back one day.

@(Unverified) There are changes in this expansion that effect practically everyone. From pos management to searching for assets, its not just graphic improvements. For me the best changes are nerfing rampant supers against subcaps, new boost mods and the new BCs.

If CCP were just releasing a placatory expansion before refocusing on 'RMT' after the sub drop they'd be insane. Also its nice to see the numbers logged in steadily rising again.

Tan,

P.s Very nice article. I likes the link work Brendan

I for one love the expansion. Even though quite a few important things imo have been left out and some new additions are messing my plans up a bit, the expansion hit home on many levels.

The weirdest thing for me is how brilliant space looks. New ship skins, shadows and trails makes any size fleet look epic, and the cyno/jump bridge effects...well lets just say that the night Crucible went live 100 people in the fleet all went "wow that's awesome" at once, when we jumped.

It's cool to see that PI is getting more player attention. Still think it was a wasted feature from a bad expansion, but surprisingly things are moving forward. Hope in the long run it will have the same good impact on PI that the new BCs have on PVP.

Overall the expansion made the game better on many levels and I for one am extremely pleased with the development so far. Not even bothered that some featured didn't quite make the time frame, it's understandable imo.

Couple of things that are annoying: the new jump button, while it might be good for some, it's been having some growing pains, with people hitting it instead of warp to. Guess players need to get used to it. And pinned windows is gone, which was a bad surprise. Heard there were technical issues with that, but it was still a useful feature.

I'll throw my hat in with the "loving it" crowd. If anything, this expansion has made me less excited about SWTOR: it's a serious, across-the-board improvement. Space is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Never been happier -- but that comes with the caveat that we want more "details" changes like this one. Fix what's there, and you'll keep/grow your playerbase. I'm right alongside them right now.

I want to believe. I really do. I quit at the height of all the Incarna drama, Eve just wasn't the same game for me anymore. After being a big WiS supporter, I felt burnt at how it was implemented and wound up turning the CQ off after an hour. I hated the interface changes, the mining changes(I loved mining, I don't care who knows it ;P ) and a lot of other things. Lots of corp mates quit as well, and it was just depressing to log in.

I've kept tabs on the game the last few months, because I want Eve and CCP to succeed, and at heart, I love a good spaceship game. I look at the current changes and I have hope but it's not enough for me to sign back on right now. Let's see what the game looks like in six months after there's been time to see how the changes have settled in.

In the meantime, I've got Skyrim keeping me busy, have absolutely zero interest in SWTOR (or anything EA-related), and I'm really not missing MMOs at the moment.

Well mate while i was logging last night in EVE i saw 50k+ ppl online. Soon they will deliver time dilatation, there was already a mass test about it. Game is astonishing, now u can actually win a fight if the enemy has more supers, PI much more fun and yields more iskies. Anomalies, exploration more profitable for about 50%. New BC are just fabulous. I am actually watching more after pod kills than ship kills, so much fun to see hundred millions in pod kills lost. Cyno effect oh oh dear.

And damn many litle new improvements. I really cant even imagine what will they deliver for next expansion, but i am sure they ll focus a lot on structure grinding and low sec.

And on summer Dust is out, mercenaries to hire for us. New eden will be even more interesting than. Lot more ppl lot more stories.

CCP attitude has certainly changed to the better, and they are sorting out the list of bugs and issues accumulated in the last two years. Apparently threat to lose your job in post-crisis Iceland does wonders to one's motivation.

However, release again contains bugs that make the game nearly unplayable - disappearing windows, game goes crasy after alt-tabbing. Looks like their QA needs some more improvement.
