All the cool kids are into social gaming these days, so it should come as no surprise when some of the bigger gaming firms start testing the waters. BioWare looks to be next on that list according to a report at GamesIndustry.biz that details Electronic Arts' acquisition of KlickNation.
KlickNation operates social games including SuperHero City and Six Gun Galaxy, and while the company's monthly active user base has declined from 1.3 million to 400,000, EA and BioWare see it as a growth opportunity. KlickNation's expertise in building innovative and compelling RPGs for social platforms makes them a seamless tuck-in with the BioWare team at EA," says Ray Muzyka.
The new unit has been renamed BioWare Social, and thus far the company has not announced any concrete plans relating to new or existing titles.

Curious to know how EA2D feels about Bioware Social. Maybe they will be integrated into one another?

I think the separation between EA and Bioware is a bit like Blizzard and Activision; they are technically the same company, but some autonomy is given to the (lesser) one, all the while, the other (bigger) one can exert influence of the gaming decisions on the (lesser) company, in obvert or subtle ways.
Blizzard has Battle.net. Activision, as a whole, doesn't use that particular thingamajig and uses other things for its other brands.

@discopete Small clarification on that. EA2D (now known as BioWare San Francisco) is also part of the new BioWare Social business unit. The KlickNation studio is now known as BioWare Sacramento.

I dislike that Bioware's name is being spread around so much.

I guess EA has failed to learn their lesson from Activision about milking brands until they have nothing left.

Companies are actually going in the direction of spreading out game access. Currently you can go to a store or to steam and get just about every game out there.
Now every company wants its own casual browser portal so you will have to start going to 5-6 sites constantly instead of one.

Whatever happened to the Bioware social club, or is that just origin now?

Still looks like it is up and running fairly well.
But that's more of a "forum" than anything else; maybe they'll combine the two?
