New power set, Central City map coming to DCUO on December 6th

December 6th is shaping up to be quite a big day for Sony Online Entertainment. Not only is EverQuest II's latest expansion slated to debut, but so is the new Lightning Strikes content pack for DC Universe Online. The pack is free for subscribers and $9.99 for F2P folk.

There's plenty of bang for your buck too, and it all starts with a new power set (electricity) and continues with new gear, a new open-world map (Central City), and plenty of new DC Comics characters and missions to populate it. New faces include Livewire, Black Lightning, The Top, and The Trickster, and you can learn more about DCUO -- as well as download the client -- at the game's official web destination, and we've tucked the newest trailer right after the break.

DCUO has a ton of potential to be a truly great MMO. They need to keep adding content at a regular pace to make up for the lack of content at launch.

@Rayko more items and powers don't make up for the lack of content. Really they need to iron out all the common SOE problems first.

I was referring to content as a whole. I never said only items and powers.

What they REALLY need to do is add more weapons. Sick of seeing almost everyone using hand blasters (including myself) because the other weapons are so...unheroic : /

Its not that its unheroic...its that melee gets you killed.

But they did say weapons/styles will come in DLC. I imagine they will knock out this 3rd power for tanking and then bring in a new weapon or two.

I wonder where you play because from where I sit all I see is Dual wield in PvP and Bows in PvE. You get the occassional handblaster user and the occassional martial arts shuriken spammer but Bows and Dual wields are the most common.

You need to PvP more and get smashed by hammers and dual wielders. That's all you see in there.

DC has to nerf those things because once they get on you, you don't stand a chance.

Glad to see Central City added in.

Am i the only one who noticed a BUNCH of re-used animations for the "New" powerset?

I saw the chargeup range attack from brawl
two different attack combo's from hangblast
and a couple of other animations rehashed from other powersets.

If so thats a big dissapointment. On the upside, new city to explore= yay!

Ermmm because they are those weapon attacks (which are the same for all power types) with electricity skin rather than showing off the actual power ;)

Even if you're currently wrong they still re-use animations, get used to it.

@(Unverified) so you encuonter 1 minor bug at launch (that was fixable by relogging BTW) and uninstalled the game? I'm not sure which is worse the wasted money you spent or the fact your allowed to breed. >.

A Station Cash card in my stocking would be a wonderful thing.

DCUO has been a ton of fun to play again since everybody came back. Really looking forward to seeing the new content.

I would totally come back, but with the Megaserver merge, Im sure I lost the names of my Characters. Someone told me that you maintain your original Character names, but only have a couple letters ADDED, which are the initials to your former Server name.

Is this true?

@Faction 3 You should have a rename token for each character in your inventory or mail. That will let you change the names to anything you want. :)

What if your original name is taken? I kinda like to keep the names of my origianal toons, even if they have the initials to my old server in them.

I don't mind "Pinball ZH" at all. But finding a different name for a goddamn hero with a Chrome head isnt too easy...
