wish it'd hurry up and go F2P, wanna try it. Jan can't come quick enough, although it may get destroyed by TOR

Speaking as someone who was in the beta of this game, left, recently came back and is departing again I will say this.

STO is a game that doesn't know what it wants to be. It takes the worst parts of a story driven MMO, a Korean grinder, WoW mashes them in to their Champions engine (which understands 'flying' but not space ships) to deliver an experience that... frankly leaves you wondering why they bothered.

A LOT if not ALL problems that were reported during beta still exist in the game; from the lack of low end content, the broken exploration system through to the shonky texturing of the Galaxy class.

By all means give the game a whirl when it goes F2P but don't go in to it expecting anything more than a Korean grinder with a slighly Trek looking skin on it.

@Bedazzled Nothimg like a korean grinider. They've made significant improvements since beta. I just went back for a few months and I've spent the last month or so on the test server. good stuff.

@Bedazzled

Your words are suspect.

Not a Korean Grinder; people were complaining of leveling up so fast with no end-game, which you can still level up fairly fast.

So, you lost some of your cred there.

I might try it again if it becomes F2P. I cancelled my pre-order after the early access thing - the gameplay was just not good and most of the content seemed taken directly from Champions Online.

Surely they must have improved STO by now?

@b3n

In a word No.

I found it to be exactly the same as beta. Both the good and the bad.

@Bedazzled But we've already established that nothing you say is grounded in reality correct?

Yeah, they said the same thing in August. Cryptic hasn't released jack for content in the past six months aside from more C-Store content meant to milk their *SUBSCRIBERS* even more.

This game and that company have always been pretty shameful. The RMT crap on top of the actual subscription was simply filthy on Cryptic's part.

I'm glad this game is going F2P as I really feel for the poor Star Trek fanatics stuck with this lemon.

I love how cryptic, one of the most JADED developers in mmo history, STILL doesnt realize that the majority of STO players have STOPPED and are waiting for f2p to begin LOL

LAUNCH THE GAME ALREADY! lol

@(Unverified) You'd think they'd ry to get it out there before everyone jumps to SWTOR. I don't know if counting on it to fail and picking up the dropped subs is a way to go.

yeah i wont touch the game again until the full on F2P model begins the least they could do is start putting in tiny bits of the F2P model and complete them in jan, making me wait for all of the new content is just meaningless blah. I do love how i will never have to buy anything from the store anymore tho, thank you for free points WOOT and the unique ship designs due to being an automatic vet.

Ah, so now they're calling it Season 5? I remember when this content was "the other half of Season 4", due sometime around late October, which is when I unsubscribed (last summer) to wait until. Of course, that was before they announced the acquisition and F2P... now I find myself seriously wondering if I should bother coming back.

This game is actually pretty fun and with the ground combat changes it's very fast-paced and visceral. If it wasn't for the fact that Perfect World acquired it and turning it to F2P(their model for their other titles is p2win), I would gladly recommend it over Tor.

I'm glad that I got Lifetime Subscription at launch. Very nice game and it keeps getting better. I don't have to watch re-runs of Star Trek to get my sci-fi fix. I can log in and have my OWN adventures.

Still loving the game and still playing.

Free to play for me (with all the bells and whistles of course).

I still enjoy my time playing STO and the changes on tribble are pretty cool. The Duty Officer system seems shallow at first but it can make a significant difference in ground and space skill bonuses and leveling other skills.

Sure I'm curious about how our eblems/merits/etc convert to the new currency but I'm not all 'pitchforks and torches' over it.
