I've really enjoyed both of you guys on Gamebreaker's The Republic although I'm worried you've developed quite a man crush on Ed, Jeff...

Not that there's anything wrong with that :)

Can't wait for launch, keep up the great coverage...I want a smuggler love interest guide!

I did some PvP as a Sniper- once I got the level 20 ability Entrench I really enjoyed it. Considering how much I disliked it in WoW (detest would be the most accurate word), I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
A big part of it is that you auto-track your targets, so it's not all about running behind people and trying to constantly swing about to see people. That, combined with the fact that you aren't dead in 3 seconds flat, made it less of an ordeal to play, and after a match on Alderaan where I held a turret mostly by myself for an entire game without dying I was hooked.
The rewards system is also very good, as it rewards damage, healing, tanking and capturing/defending objectives, so strategic play is rewarded instead of just getting credit based on kills.

@Evilgm One thing I really enjoyed was voting for MVP. Really puts a sense of control over who gets the award & who doesn't. If you're a kickarse healer, you might get it over the person who kills the most. In fact, most of the time the person with the most kills DIDN'T get MVP as they weren't completing objectives.

I would always vote for the highest healing. Sometimes that would be me but can't vote for myself so I would pick the next down.

I really enjoy watching Taurgrim's live stream. Good gameplay, entertaining voice, and presents itself in a professional manner.

I need to check this guy out. I have been watching the TGN videos on PvP and they are quite entertaining as well. BOOM! SUCKAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa....

Anyway I started out before beta wanting to role an Agent or Smuggler. After trying them out in beta, I quickly ran for the BH/Trooper classes and enjoyed them better. I feel defeated though and would like to check out some agent/smugg videos to see if I am really missing something. Good stuff!

@SwarlesBarkley

Did you go damage or healing on your AC for Agent? The damage AC(sniper?) ups the range on key run and damage abilities. It also lowers the cool-down on grenades which is the BEST aoe I've run into for pvp at lower levels. Hell, the default attack did decent damage in a running fight and two cc's at around level 10 really helps to get out of sticky situations(one is a ranged 5 person/5 second aoe mezz!). I would only use cover strategically or if a ball of people was foolishly ignoring me and allowing me to tee off. Sometimes hitting cover(the natural kind, the green types that pops up when you have an enemy targeted) while running could get me a little extra speedy scoot that could get me out of melee range for long enough to make a difference or confuse a foe. You just gotta keep more mobile than you would think an Agent would be. Your dps won't suffer as far as I can tell if you don't try and use cover all the time.

Also, at least for me, it is key to go into settings and change it to NOT que up abilities when you mash keys. Warhammer Online had that feature and it drove me mad. I am very rhythmic when I pvp and that crap totally throws me off.

Wish I did more PvP; I only had the beta before this and they started me on Saturday of this last Beta. I touched most of the classes, but only got half of them to 10 or more.

Still, the Arenas were fun. The low level stuff seemed balanced. I hope it keeps the same at higher levels.

Yeah, I noticed that the non-traditional healers tended to do very well in pvp.

@EuchridEucrow ya a hybrid healer but a full blown healz had problems due to lack of dps and survivability.a full healz is still u stand in the back,at max range and bitch about the tank moving.as per usual.

the only complaint i can have about ed's videos.is the misuse of the word kite.to kite is not just to move while dpsing, its move while dpsing at range.as well the target is chasing you.if your just dpsing at range and you move to another target thats not considered kiting.

I think Alderaan has better mechanics than Battle for Gilneas (even though I love BfG). It keeps the team in the lead on their toes. The losing team can come back easier. It's easier to take a node because all of the nodes are so close... not to mention the speederbikes. I've seen a lot more close matches, percentage-wise, with Alderaan than I have with Arathi Basin or Battle for Gilneas.

Keep up the good work Taugrim!

SWTOR pvp has got to be probably the worst pvp of any popular MMO >.<

WoW finally did away with the 10-19 brackets, whats swtor do,
WELCOME TO LEVEL 10, YOU'LL ALL HAVE SAME HP, SO HAVE FUN FIGHTING A LEVEL 28 JEDI WARRIOR WHO QUEUE'D WITH A LEVEL 26 HEALER.

Staying in melee combat to use melee abilities has got to be one of the most insane things i've ever seen, people move so fast that just strafing around you can avoid most melee hits with ease heh.

Is k though, to remedy that we got AoE CC and 30% healing reduction spams for engaging in pvp. awwyah.

sosad. Least the PvE is neats.

@scfs123 My lvl 15 jedi knight guardian had no problem chasing people aroung whle hitting them, i had an AoE 50% movement reduction "shout" thingy skill which worked just fine. There was a lot of lag sometimes, so that gave me some trouble but i've been playing WoW for 6 years as a warrior and i'm used to chasing people around while hitting them as hard as i can.
From what i've seen, that's the hardest AC to play with at low lvls because of no CC available, and i still managed. The rest of the melee classes seemed fine to me.

And the bolster mechanic is plain awesome, if you encountered someone with a pocket healer it has nothing to do with that, you can get a couple dps go with you and destroy that healer in 5 seconds. Team work and all that, you know, something many people lack specially on a beta where no one even knows what their character has for skills and such. So give it time and let's see what happens at launch and so.

@scfs123 I'm not sure what your complaint is here. Do you want them to only allow you into battlegrounds with people that are all your level or within 1 of it? And what's so terrible about fighting someone who brought along a friend? Get your own friend and stop complaing about it.

Does it make you mad that TOR PvP already works 1,000 times better than 7-year-old WoW PvP when it's still in beta?

Hrmmm, something went south so I will attempt to respond to the above quote like I was trying to before.

Ahem, take your hyperbolic bullshit elsewhere. Just because YOU can't adapt and overcome doesn't mean you have entitlement to spew troll bollocks. Figure it out and stop crying please.

I played with Taugrim back in Aion. Good times man, good to see you're still kickin the pvp bucket around. So far I'm loving the arena based pvp in SWTOR. A few kinks they need to work out, but over all it's pretty fun. Except those fire shoots in the huttball arena, wtf!?

Does anyone have any experience with open world pvp, is there any at all? I never got high enough to make it to any contested areas. Just wondering if it's enjoyable, or if it's a spawn camping, gankfest.

@Zydin

Larry talks about some of his open-world experience on the podcast, available here:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/29/massively-speaking-episode-176-black-and-blue-friday/

IMO, from what he said, I feel most people were too busy feeling their character, trying out the lower levels, and just getting to know the game that they probably didn't gank as much as they would have in this beta. It's probably different with the higher levels (beyond Lvl 30), where those players spent more time on their character and got used to it.
