They can say what they like, it's still ludicrous.

So if you took current WoW Gold prices and offered an in-game item for 5,000 Gold you can say that it was worth $$$$ in sales but chances are everyone who bought one just had that amount of Gold in their bank anyhow.

Okay, THAT makes sense.

And pretty deceptive of them.

I'd like to take a moment to pat myself on the back and point out that I called it first lol. I knew this was BS.

The problem though is that you can buy the currency direct from Bigpoint, and the listed article indicates some did just that. I don't know how scarce the ingame resource is to make it, but bigpoint is pretty harsh with its cash shop, with prices for items in the $20 range, and higher.

Of course, when you advertise the possibility of making $10,000 from a tournament your game holds, well...

What is this drone anyways? Just a pet or some amazing weapon (not that either would justify the price tag of course).

Isn't the point of being a journalist that you do the fact checking before you publish? I understand this is a blog site, but I often see blog writers complaining they are not being taken seriously as journalists. Do the site a favour and don't just rush to crank out unsubstantiated posts, take some time and post an actual article that conveys real information so that we will see less then the usual daily "correction" posts tagged onto articles or posted as new articles.

I play this game and the drone may or may not cost thousands... I can see were people might see this as costing a lot.

To understand the high cost of the drone you first have to understand 'booty boxes'. These are little items floating around that you can pick up with a booty key. The keys cost uridium that exchanges for about 10890 uridium per dollar. You can get also 7.26 booty keys for a dollar.

So you could buy the drone outright and pay about 300 dollars for it, or you could wait till the uridium sale day(where I sourced the exchange rate from) and buy the drone for 100 dollars approximately. Thats the cheap way(yeah I know 100 bucks for a bunch of pixels.. amazing!!)

Very few were lucky enough or smart enough when it came out to get it the 'cheap' way.

Many people purchased hundreds of booty keys and thought they'd build their drone from those. They were wrong. You see you can in one box get 1/45 th of the drone. Since the odds weren't known about how many boxes you needed to pick up in order to get a piece of the drone, people assumed the best. Ok so still hundreds of booty keys wasn't enough.. so they purchased hundreds more and though for sure I'll get it this time!! not so lucky.. the house always wins... by this time they already went past the 100 dollar mark, and were either so frustrated they purchased it outright(you see as you get pieces the instant purchase price of the drone goes down). Some didn't do that.. some were stubborn and wanted to go the 1000 euro path and buy booty keys till the drone was constructed.. and those were the ones that paid through the nose.

It is interesting to note that the model by which these booty keys were conceived is the same psychological model by which casino owners persuade people to pull the arms on the slot machines.. its called the skinner box(just gotta google it.. valid psychological term if not a bit crude sounding). These booty keys also hold the promise of new and powerful lasers, and other goodies. BP is one big Casino and Dark Orbiters have gambling addictions!!

I don't have the drone yet... if I do get it I will have done so getting uridium in game for free.
