There may be hope yet for Star Trek: Infinite Space. The title's future was called into question when a series of layoffs wracked Gameforge, causing the studio to state that the Star Trek title would be cancelled unless it could acquire a co-publisher. A post on the Star Trek: Infinite Space official forums stated that Bigpoint has taken an interest in the title. Now all that remains is to wait and see how Gameforge responds to Bigpoint's offer. Stay tuned, and we'll be sure to bring you the latest as it develops.

Let Star Trek as an MMO die until a true AAA MMORPG company can pick it up. Actually, I'd rather we wait at least 3 more years till someone even begins developing another Star Trek MMO just so we can have better technology to allow for a more flexible, and open world to explore. Either way, the Star Trek IP needs a game dev like Arenanet, Trion or Blizzard to make the game. It has such a richer world to pull from then any other potential gaming world, including Star Wars.

I'd rather it be Bethesda since Bioware, in my opinion, does not do a great job of having a more open world with some sort of sandboxy style elements to it. SWTOR is way too linear and I'd like to think that a new Star Trek MMO would break that convention.

"Nooooo! Not the Big Point!" :P
Actually, this may not be too bad, since the game is fairly complete. The only problem is any large Cash Shop or "Pay 2 Win" things Big Point may put into the game.
Basically, since Big Point did not develop the game initially, it may not be bad...but then again, it may become bad.

This game had potential right up until STO announced it was going free to play, now it just seems redundant, it's free to play feature was its biggest draw.

Umm, let's not confuse Star Trek: Infinite Space with Star Trek Online. This is a browser game.

Bigpoint?

Anyway it is just browser game, so it does not matter actually.

There's always Perfect World Entertainment to attract as a buyer too, both Online Star trek games under their belt then. Bling.

That would be a mistake. They'd effectively be splitting their customers if they owned both games. It's the same dilemna SoE had after buying Vanguard so other companies couldn't buy it, fix it up and compete with EQ2.
Sure it keeps it out of your competition's hands, but it will cripple you because it's essentially the same mmo.
