I'd vote for "scrap the system." Surnames shouldn't have to be unique to accounts -- they sure aren't in real life!

It's arguably one of the stupidest ideas I've heard in a very long time.

Would it make sense if Yoda, Luke, Chewbacca and Jar Jar all had the same last name? Apparently, EA/Bioware seems to believe so.

Frankly, I think this decision betrays their inexperience and penchant for surrounding themselves with sycophantic yesmen.

God, that's so wrong on so many levels!

A roleplayers nightmare! How can my Pureblood Sith Inquisitor, my Twilek Smuggler, my Miraluka Jedi and my Chiss Agent POSSIBLY have the same surname?

That is just ridiculous!

I fail to see the problem really this is nothing more then a wonderful system of keeping people from doing what they've been doing on world of warcraft for sometime now. Let me give you all an example. A known hacker hacks someones account joins a guild and begins spamming the guild channel whilst selling all the items in the account in silvermoon city. He's booted and reported. Suddenly he's back in the same guild as a new level 1 toon spamming again. That toon is booted and the incidents continue. Why because there is no system in WoW that allows guild masters to know who is who despite their alts. EVERY mmo needs a system like this. STO might have had many problems but the devs were smart with this one, they put an @accountnamehere system so if one toon was banned ALL of them would be and the player could be recognized. This needs to be in EVERY mmo from now on.

This really doesn't make any sense.

Guild Leaders have to INVITE you to a guild. So, you are basically saying the guild leaders accept anyone and everyone? Why shouldn't THEY at least ask basic questions before tossing out Guild invites?

KNOWING whom you invite, like if they speak english and get along with you, would STILL be the best tool to prevent what you are saying.

It sounds like the Guild got what they deserved with their mass invites. If they can't be bothered to ask a few basic questions to figure if someone is human, then they deserve what they got. Do they even look at a character's name? I'd be suspect before accepting someone named "jjkkhtyoih" into my guild...

I don't see and positive or negative of it. It's just...there. If you want to be be Darth Feet Walkersky..."shrug".

You can turn it off because it's optional. Like everything else in this game.

Because in SWTOR, you have choice, but it doesn't matter.

Umm...no...not so much as "choice" as you make it sound.

You either use the legacy name on your character(s) or you block it out. If I had one character on that server, fine, but most players who do have alts have more than one on a server.

Most people asking for surnames wanted individual names per character, not an all-in-one system (by server). If Bioware just gave you a first and last name at character generation, this would not be a problem. If they let us use a space in our single names, this would not be as bad a problem (most people would make due).

But this is just "a tease". It is you can have one cookie or don't. There are no "multiple choices" or "options" here. It's "either/or". I can't have a different flavored cookie or even more cookies, just one.

I LOOOOOOOOVE global usernames in games. I assume this would be the same, although I'm not so sure after I heard you have to max level to choose one...

City Of Heroes had the global friends list and every game that doesn't since then makes me very, very sad D:
