I'm with you, Brendan: I'm super-excited about the "miss animations."

The thing about this is, this satisfies all the people who already are invested in the game, and also vets annoyed at the lack of changes, but it changes nothing about the core emptiness of the game. Alts still make running industrial or courier companies pointless, 0.0 will still be the same it ever was, CCP will keep itinerating features then not working on them (like planetary interaction, which they changed all of once to make it more of a pain to discourage botters) and so on.

They need something like a cataclysm or radical shakeup to snap the game out of lulzboat PvP mode and into more of an actual sandbox. This is a short term change to stave off blood loss, but it isn't addressing real flaws, just vet wishlists.

@Dblade

You mean they should make it more vanilla like WoW. (yes its because you said cataclysm)

Confirming that lulzboat pvp never gets old, it's cuz of teh lulz. Also confirming that I can't get my sick lolz in any other game.

@Dblade I think this was the best expansion they could do in the time frame for winter, given that they decided to suddenly take a different direction and fix EvE, it is a great first step. I think the summer expansion will add even more given the new direction.

@Dblade

The thing that keeps a sandbox working is PVP. Sure, a lot of people like sandbox games for the pve element, for crafting and whatever else, but all those would be more or less pointless without any way to pewpew all that stuff.

Sure, there are other areas of the game that need changing/, no one can deny that. But as eve is primarily a PVP game, well PVP should always be the first step.

I'm not sure CCP would be into bringing in another module, and there will still be powergrid issues for the ships that need those, the Basilisk is already very tight fit and needs rigs to get even remotely close to a similar. You also unbalance the Minmitar that have smaller signatures and faster speed to compensate and already winmitar with the alpha.

Shields are already at a disadvantage in that they need an active hardeners like the Invulnerability fields, there are no non-active all round resist modules for shields - armour gets two - and the faction versions of these for armoru go for about 40m, while focused faction like a true sansha resistance hardener go for 14m. The Dread Guristas Invulnerability field sells for 505m. Shield also have no version of the slave set, that massively increases armor EHP. Then there is the signature.

In every conceivable way, Caldari shields are at a disadvantage - unless the ship itself is set-up so that it works. The Drake is the perfect example of this, large EHP, low DPS Caldari fleet ship.

Only certain ships that can be considered fleet ships need fixing, the Rokh, Eagle, Vulture and Basilisk. Truly, with it's signature, the Basilisk needs similar tank to the Guardian, if not more EHP given it's signature is 66% higher!

If you take the low slot off the Rokh, give it another mid slot, then you don't over power their DPS, but allow them to actually fit... you know, a warp disrupter ;-) so their tank still needs a base shield HP increase. But if these specific ships also had their base shield regeneration reduced, it would stop them becoming awesome passive shield tankers, and keep them as fleet boats.

There is talk of a shield slave set, but even with that, it wouldn't be used much in 0.0 and the ships need balancing to ever be used.

EVE is a "thoughtful" game. It requires patience and planning. Even PVP combat must be well thought out. It is not rush in an start shooting at someone.

Personally, I enjoy mining, running PI, and being a super carebear. I do some exploration in low sec in my Covert Ops ship and that is enough PVP experience for me...
