Oh boy, this one just might reach 500 comments.

I'm holding off on my experiences till after I play the new build that was just released.

@Faith I hate the new build. I logged in with my lightsabers non-functional due to their excessive color restrictions (darkside can't use anything but red).

Most of what he said was wrong. So..um...no.

In fairness that only affects you because your character pre-dates the build. If the game was live, I'd be right there with you. But the game is still in beta. It would not affect characters that are newly minted.

@aurickle Color restrictions are bad design. They have too much restricted and pathed, and not enough room for players to invest themselves.

@Lucidus I full endorse the color restrictions. Light side shouldn't be using red and dark side shouldn't be using green/blue. Very happy about this change.

@(Unverified) Lol. Yes the generic cutscenes that use every stock animation file from ME and DA...

@(Unverified) You can't make a lore argument. The color restriction are based on your personal alignment. If this were true, Grevious couldn't use the lightsabers he picked up, nor could Anakin use his.

This also impacts crafting negatively. And also further genericizes everyone's appearance.

I realize that Bioware is really going gung ho with making the entire game on rails, but they need to stop micromanaging the player experience somewhere.

@Lucidus

Not exactly true.

The only colors that are alignment restricted are red (requires Dark 1) and blue and green (requires Light 1).

You can still go with orange, yellow, white, purple, magenta...
The reason for this is that those colors are highly symbolic, it would be like making a Romulan swing that Klingon blade weapon.

Uh-uh-uh.

For someone "in the beta" you don't know a lot.

Those lightsabers ALREADY had the color crystals in them in regard to Grevious, and Anakin turned dark AFTER making his Saber.

Currently, if a color crystal is already in the lightsaber, you can still wield it. It is only if you try to place a NEW crystal in that you are unable to.

@Threecubed Is that the newest build? Because last weekend my Sith Inquisitor could not equip a green dualbladed lightsaber drop because I was not "Light 1". So I took the red jewel out of my dual-bladed lightsaber and popped the green one in. Bam, Sith with a green.

I really liked testing the game... I think it has great promise and really felt like Star Wars. Great job holding true to the IP.

However, the game made me VERY dizzy/nauseous after playing. As of yet, it's the only game I've ever played that made me feel that way. Could have been because of low FPS or something. Might try it again sometime.

@yeppers You're not the only one. And my graphics card is far from being old and crappy.

@yeppers didn't have any issue, and the engine they used is used in a lot of mmo. so i guess you only played wow before this. lol.

Hardly. I am a recovering WoW-addict (1 year sober) but I've played A LOT of MMOs and single-player games. Nice try though. I'm not a hardcore SW fan but I had a lot of fun playing the game. Like others have said, the CG cutscenes were top notch and have the immersive feel WoWs have. They make you want to play the characters in them.

@yeppers It could have been your monitor's refresh rate. I've played a lot of games that use the 60 hz by default, which really makes me sick.

Well then, having tested for over three months, I can finally say that it's a very good game for those comfortable with the standard WoW themepark formula. Even people who can't stand killing 10 more rats, or running another fetch quest may enjoy playing a character to max-level, due to the voice overs, which are absolutely top-notch.

Having said that, I personally grew tired of the game pretty quickly and won't be subscribing, but that has more to do with me being tired of the genre as a whole, and not with STOR being a bad game. In fact, it's probably the best example of the MMORPG themepark genre. I'm just burned out on it.

I'm also not a big fan of the Hero engine. I've played a few games using it so far, and while some environments can be really pretty to look at, I found that they generally lack a sense of depth and perspective. I'm not sure what's attributing to this or whether it can be fixed by the artists, but everything tends to blend together into an almost 2D like portrait.
