@Solude

Solude, care to list your video card, memory, operating system, which version of GPU software etc that your using? I think it might help others with what they might expect with their own systems.

Example I'm running Intel core i7cpu 930 @2.80ghz, 12gig ram, Win 7 64bit Ultimate Service pack1, MSI R6970 HD Lightning 2gb GPU. (next year I'm replacing the system btw since I couldn't fit in a second MSI R6970..(mutter)

I've done the beta a few times and I cannot get into it. Yes it has a great storyline, good voice acting, but I'm sorry...it really is just WoW in space. 11122123 same shit....whats the point?

@Janitor

I hear if you say "wow in space" enough times will create a localized wormhole that, if entered, will transport you right past thinking and into bumper sticker sloganeering! Science awaits! Get cracking!

Lots of people that are saying they didn't like it are not bashing it though. Many are suggesting that its okay that they didn't like it, and understand why others will.

Now that the NDA is up, its not just banter anymore, people are able to comment with their REAL experiences, and i appreciate everyone who's chiming in with their own take on it at this point. Positive or Negative, theirs things we can all appreciate with us all being honost with one another.

I had no expectations that TOR would be anything but an over-hyped disappointment. Until I got my training light saber and went off to save the world. And got my ship. And had my first space battle.

In terms of game play, TOR is exactly like you thought it would be: Dragon Age on steroids. Every interaction with an NPC is voiced. Every quest has multiple conversation options. Main quests drive you forward, side quests add spice. But I have to say, I felt the quests were rather better written than the usual, and provided a lot of story, so that even if you were gathering the equivalent of ten squirrel tails, they were the most damned important 10 things you ever gathered.

Quests are further enhanced by Light and Dark choices that have long-range influence on your character. And don't be flip. Apparently, flip is not appreciated. Your companions change their affection for you depending on your dialogue responses, make sure they have a sense of humor before being a smart ass.

Combat is easy and powerful. As a Jedi Sentinel I never felt like a wimp with a light saber. Space missions are fun arcade shooters. So if you are tired of slicing and dicing, you can jump into your spaceship and shoot down some baddies.

Scenery and environments, depending on where you are, are going to be either wonderful or monotonous. Out of door environments were nicely done. In door environments were what you would expect: Grey industrial and uninteresting after awhile.

Yes, the game has all the traditional MMO gameplay features, but at the same time none of them are like any other MMO. Yup, it is Star Wars. And if you're going to play an MMO, why shouldn't it be in the Star Wars universe?

There's a difference between having a negative experience and going into the game with unrealistic expectations (which a most of these posts were.)

It's as if 80% of those who are bashing the game didn't even bother to read the features that were in the game before joining beta.

I can bash WoW after playing it for the first time for not being a sandbox, not having a classless system, not having player housing. Yet none of those features were even presented to the public at launch.

Go to a supermarket, buy a box of Wheaties, then complain to people that it doesn't have marshmallows. You'll look like a dumbass.

I enjoyed playing the beta for how long it kept my interest but 15 bucks a month is 15 bucks too much. I'll wait for Guild Wars 2.

Just got accepted myself. Funny, because I didn't even remember signing up. Now I have to wait until they send me my password reset email. Doesn't help when thousands of other people are hammering their site, though. :(

Two things:

1 - Anyone who has called SWTOR or ANY mmo for that matter, a "wow clone" has to be the most ignorant and just plain ol STUPID AS FRACK person in the world. Seriously - whine much?

2 - SWTOR is an amazing, beautiful, captivating and extremely ORIGINAL, trend-setting mmorpg EXPERIENCE. Yet, because there are soooo many ignorant and horribly JADED, BURNT-OUT, NEUROTIC and SPOILED players out there that choose to play mmos 18+ hrs a day, instead of taking a break to have a REAL LIFE for just a little bit - they dont see how different SWTOR is from soo many other games. C'mon people - it IS very different.

Also, to all the SWG players (no, not the "I left after the so and so patch/update/xpac broke the game - I'm talking about the REAL players who didnt cry like little babies because the game didnt bow down and cater to them 100% of the time) SWTOR isnt a "sandbox" as you might call it. But remember, SWG, while a sandbox now and forever, A LOT of it ISNT considered a sandbox through and through. And, SWG was around for 81/2 YEARS! SWTOR didnt even come out yet and it has soooo much for RPers and explorers and players that DONT level-rush ALREADY, that time will bring more and more. I have a good feeling that SWTOR wil meet a perfect medium between the so-called "themepark" and "sandbox" titles and maybe improve oN BOTH!

There is soooooo much content in SWTOR already and with HALF of every classes pve experience being solely separate content for just that class - its amazing that there is soo much and the game is just about to release. If after 8 1/2 years SWTOR doesnt have DOUBLE the content and map space that SWG does now , i'd be extremely shocked.

RIght now space-stuff is linear and "on rails" in some ways. THAT WILL CHANGE, I can guarantee it! More customization for your companions "yup, I can guarantee THAT in time" More companions? YUP! More worlds to explore and adventure on? YUP! Taking off from a planet in your spaceship to enter space, go to another planet and land - without being a "quick trip"/load screen version? Oh yeah! In time, it will happen.
See, while a lot of you(myself included) are soo upset about the loss of our dear dear SWG - we have forgotten to see something extremely important.....

A BRAND NEW STAR WARS GAME IS ABOUT TO BE RELEASED!!! Its almost 2012, the mmorpg technology is at its peak and there is sooo much that can be realized in this one amazing game!!! Imagine if SWG was released NOW, with better graphics, and everything else...
With SWTOR, its an enturely new timeline that has barely been scratched in terms of storylines and there is sooo much to see and do!!! And with Bioware at the helm and the MASSIVE amount of content already in the game for release, how can we NOT be extremely excited about whats about to unfold over the next decade????

We have to! So take a deep breath, enjoy SWG while you can..but know that on December 20th(or earlier with headstart) we get to step forth into a NEW Star Wars experience and have thousands of adventures- all NEW adventures in this basically untouched timeline in the SW ip!!!

I for one, am super excited! And i'm not a super huge star wars fan!! But with SWTOR and after playing the beta, there isnt a day that goes by where I dont grin with pleasure about SWTOR coming out in less than one month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anwyays, see you all there and May the light be with you and all that good stuff! Salute!

should be a new guild on EVERY server full of all ex-swg players

Except this is NOT Star Wars. It is kind of copy of Clone Wars with badly animated plastic avatars in a plastic world. They are on par with ST On line with these avatars.

No space either in what is supposed to be ... a space opera.

EA at its best.

@(Unverified) I find it strangely ironic you are bashing on players for hating on SWTOR. Then at the same time you are bashing on those exact people.

Grow up please. You like the game great, post about that. Don't have a couple paragraph long rant about "spoiled" players who are complaining about the game. It is their money, and they choose to spend it where they please. Obviously this game isn't for them. You are just falling as low as they are by posting this.

Plastic world with plastic avatars with plastic Light Sabres.

Art is almost non existent.

Clunky PvP combat.

Lag

The usual EA junk.

Did I say it looks all plastic ?

Yep.

No one can deny this simple fact either.

It must be great all walking around with the same companions too.

And yep, they too - just like everything else look ... plastic.

Odd to see VO on plastic figures really.

From looking at the beta footage on youtube, I found it odd that no chrome metal is to be seen anywhere. I did see some metallic looking surface somewhere, but the impression I got was that shiny metal was nowhere to be seen.

R2D2 had a shiny chrome top dome. The prequels also had this entire spaceship clad with some chrome looking metal. Lightsabers in Star Wars tend to look like being made of some chrome metal, but none of the lightsabers in SWTOR look like this afaik.

Yeah I tried the beta and it's just not for me. I'm not really saying it is a bad game, it just fell far away from my expectations. I mean I really expected more from a next gen 2011 MMORPG. Story and good cutscenes isn't enough for me to shell out monthly payments. The quality is good and bugs seem few and far between. It just isn't the game for me. I got into the beta, so I'm not saying this off of watching videos and reading about it. I played, and will play again this upcoming beta test. But for me, it doesn't do it for me. I feel a huge gaping whole in the game that will probably never be filled. Somewhere between boring combat, quests and other weird quirks that annoy me.

Have fun all who have pre-ordered etc. For me, it's back to waiting for Guild Wars 2 ;)

So, epic intro CGI to get your guard down, a nice Bioware-grade storyline, combined with ludicrously simplistic graphics and laughably basic (think Cryptic) gameplay ?

SW:TOR is the massive failure everyone knew it was going to be. Yes, even those who desparately want to love it because A) it's Star Wars and B) they NEED to get out of WoW, somehow: y'all know it deep down.

The long wait until Guild Wars 2 arrives continues.
