"Is it a bad thing? I suppose you could take the view that part of me has just given up on this game ever launching, so I've passed through all of the "omg hurry up and launch!!!" flailing about and frustration and come out the other side. However, I get pretty stressed out these days when I think about trying to get into the closed beta, so maybe not all is lost."

Nah, you are just older and wiser for it. It's good to get excited about things, too. While it is easy to be "jaded", like say, expecting a new movie, I sometimes miss riding that "hype train". Granted, many folks just get on and never get off the train and that can be fun, but short hops on it is fine. You "pounce" on Beta when you can and know "it is on". No use revving the wheels of your own hype to get burnt out (or even disappointed in some aspects) of the game.

Really, sometimes I get envious/jealous of that..."immature, youthfully optimistic" outlook in life, but I don't want to be burnt out, so I take it in stride. But, of course we are all "fans" in our own way and look forward to our likes and interests! It's just being human.

I'd rather read news about GW2 than actually play a game already released.

Reading that Guru thread on the earnings call reminded me pretty clearly of why I stopped going there in the first place; some of those people seem like they're driving themselves crazy waiting for this game. I've been looking forward to Guild Wars 2 for a good 5 years now (since Eye of the North) and I've yet to experience any "fan burnout" because I've got more things going on in my life than waiting for a single video game to be released. Go outside. Play some other games; I hear Skyrim is great. Do something OTHER than living off of news on a game who's only release date has been "when it's ready" then throwing a tantrum when the game (and news) doesn't come out as soon as you feel it should.

Like usual, the updates were great and the game is looking better than ever. As a side note, if beta is going to be this year then they should be revealing the Mesmer soon.

@Ehra Wait man, let's be clear... Skyrim is not great ok? Skyrim is pure epicness... is the thing, the one and only... no for real... it's truly the best RPG ever made imo. You have so many things to do and the world feels crafted for you, it feels hand made, it feels lively and real. I spent 7 hours to get from lvl 1 to lvl 2 and not because it was hard, but because I just couldn't stop walking and trying to see the next building and the next mountain... I just couldn't stop exploring.
Some people gave this game bad review and said it resembles DA:O... something is truly wrong with those guys.
Others said that it's bad cause it has bugs... not so many and none of which I found were game-breaking. And still... for a game of this magnitude, bugs can't be avoided. Just don't focus too much on observing them.
Skyrim is the best thing that could've happened till gw2 will come out.
Still waiting for you GW2, you hear me? And yeah, I still want to lvl a char in Pre.

"The developers have such a great sense of humor about the little things in Tyria..."

As long as it's not the pop-culture or poo-quest laden kind of sense of humour of "other games", this is fine with me, even nice to hear. My biggest complaint with games that try to be funny when I'm trying to invest in their world as a character of my design is the idea that if I'm going to have my character partake in, or be the butt of a joke, *I* want to decide how my character digests that humour within the context of the heroic persona the common PC is by design. Making the next step in the plot "go be indiana' Jones' busboy" or "go poop out those seeds you just ate" isn't so much "immersion breaking" (after all, if that's how the world rolls, it's not breaking immersion) as it is "character betrayal".

It's hard to word this line of complaint without opening one's self up to "LOL RP is srs bsns", but I'm ok with that. It's as serious to me as raiding is to raiders, and the "sense of humour" of a game not treading on my emotional investment in my character is a rather important issue to me.

I'm *REALLY* looking forward to GW2 but I have to admit getting into the TOR beta back in Dec. has kept me sane... I'll play and enjoy TOR when it launches and that will help make the wait for GW2 far far more bearable.

I totally know what you mean about thinking of GW2 as "a game I play when I travel". I'm still really hyped for it, but at this point I've accepted the wait. As awesome as the game will be, each reveal excites me less and less; not because I am less interested or they are less fantastic, I just have entered a much more mellow state about the whole thing. I love the tidbits, but after accepting that I still have a long time before release, I just don't get so rabid.

Reading those threads on guru is so painful it comes out the other side and becomes funny. There just isn't much to do about it though. The Devs are taking it in stride and I hope they don't get beaten down by hyperbole. The mods are trying their best to keep it at bay, but at a certain point people are just gonna say what they will say. The other fans can try to bring some calm, but some people just want to live in their own worlds and get worked up over everything. I've tried to limit myself to one scathing post per thread and be done with it. I can say my peace and I'm tired of every little word being picked apart.

I really loved the character customization and facial features articles. I'm really impressed with their level of detail they've been implementing. Now back to Skyrim... XD

Seeing as how its the 14th of November, they may want to start with the process of getting the CB ready to roll (invites, keys, dates, etc) if they want to make their 2011 CB testing deadline, as its another Month & a Half before the new year (obviously).

Sadly, I can't partake in it as I work for one of the employers where it gets ENOURMOUSLY busy this time of year: Fed-Ex.

@Faction 3

Anet's strategy for closed beta is different than a standard closed beta, its more like in-between what we know as an alpha stage and closed beta stage. Closed beta may not be announced at all and invites are on a "need to know" basis. Heck its possible they are already in closed beta. At least, that's what I've gathered from the information available.

Woo! I hope we see the first wave before the end of the year. This is the MMO I have been waiting for.

The idea of a game having a "skill revamp" before it's even out just seems weird.

I think there's actually too much pre-release information on games these days. Just tell me when it's out.

@jaycrockett I think it's a good thing, since, even though it's marketing, it shows they're thinking hard about their design and aren't afraid to gut it when it's not good enough.

It's very refreshing when most MMOs, including upcoming AAA titles, do nothing more than "let's just copy that old build of Warcraft I liked."

No. If you're tired of all of the information then feel free to spend your time paying attention to anything else. I'll keep my little updates every now and then, thanks.

What Ehra said. And why is it weird for there to be a skill revamp before it's even out? Every game (hopefully) goes through that process pre-release, unless you somehow are under the impression that gameplay goes straight from the drawing board to the finished product with no tweaking necessary.

As a parent, I learned to be patient since I often tell our kids to slow down that they are growing too fast. With that, I appreciate the virtue of patience...until the game makes me feel like a kid again...HURRY IT UP, AND RELEASE IT!!!

Oddly enough, even though I'm very much looking forward to GW2, I'm not at all interested in the beta. I have no plans to sign up for it, I just feel completely calm and relaxed about it. I know I'll get the game as close to launch as I can afford, and that's as far as I care.

By comparison, I was fairly keen to beta test TOR because I was uncertain of it. And still am. :\
