The man is a certifiable loony. I want to believe that much of what he wrote was tongue-in-cheek, but I doubt it.

This translates to me as "Clearly, only Richard Garriott knows what's good."

Hey look, Garriott's trying to be relevant again. I guess the cash finally ran out after dumping Tabula Rasa like an ugly ex-girlfriend. Too bad the market is so saturated that anything he did create would get lost in a sea of mediocrity.

It's pretty obvious that Garriott has an over inflated sense of his own worth.

Ultima Online is better today than it was when Garriott was there, but it's an isometric game in an era of first person, 3d games. It's done as well as it could do considering the technological limitations.

Meanwhile, RG had the resources to create whatever kind of MMO he wanted with Tabula Rasa, and instead he was more interested in being a cosmonaut. That was his choice, not EA's, or NCsoft, or any one else.

To his credit he did go up against The Hulkster.

To say that Garriott has not had a huge influence on computer RPGs would be silly. To say he will be essential to crafting the ultimate RPG is also silly.

This is a person who if he wasn't so arrogant I could respect and to that point I think once people forget the massive ego he will be remembered for his impact on gaming. As to his current situation, I really think a statement like that needs to be matched with some proof in the pudding. Lets see if there's a game from him around the corner that meets his Ultimate RPG expectations.

While Garriott's ego is obviously pretty big, but it isn't entirely undeserved. He did create one of the most successful and memorable RPG series of the 80s and 90s.

UO was one of the first successful MMOs to reach market. To this day, most modern MMOs utterly fail in properly updating upon some of the things that UO did.

It is likely that he's just blowing smoke in this needlessly long winded post, but part of me wants to believe that he's going to bring talented people in and create a true successor to UO which maintains the original's charm and sandbox features while featuring the updated technology of a modern, AAA MMO.

Wishful thinking, I know.

I, Lenn, think that he, Richard Garriott, should put his, Richard Garriott's, money where his, Richard Garriott's, mouth is. If his, Richard Garriott's, drive to make a game was as big as his, Richard Garriott's, ego, he, Richard Garriott, could have come up with his, Richard Garriott's, ultimate game a long time ago. Until he, Richard Garriott, makes it so, I, Lenn, will just have to assume that he, Richard Garriott, is full of it, Richard Garriott's over-inflated ego.

Man, this guy is very much in love with himself. I personally don't think he is good at anything other than giving good "Stache"

Seeing that Apple setup brings back the memories which also specifically include ultimas 1-4 on an apple just like that. But man, 4 disk drives!!! that would have been pricey back then. I only had 1. No wonder he is so arrogant, he was spoiled way back in the day. :)

RG is a really talented game maker. He does a good job coming up with innovative ideas. And I can see that at some level for ultima to really feel like ultima and move forward it would need him. It would otherwise be like a painting where a different artist finishes it. Design brings a lot of the person with it.

But would the ultimate ultima be the ultimate rpg? probably not. He has talent but he is not the only guy out there with talent and he is certainly not the most talented out there. Maybe in the top 10.

If everything Richard Garriott has ever done in the industry was close to genius, I would be willing to accept his amplified doosher characteristics as part of the creative brilliant package.

However, his pedigree isn't that great all together, so he should just STFU.

It's a good thing I stopped taking Garriott seriously years ago because he is so full of...himself.

Also, it's a little creepy to hear him talking about himself in the thrid person. A little bit creepy and a lot stupid.

Garriott...you are no longer relevant so SHUT UP ALREADY!

Hire him back let him choose his team
Give him money
and leave him the hell alone until he's done.

The only thing more pathetic than him trying to relive his glory days is Massively constantly having articles about him.
