If Massively gave out 4 green bubbles, you would get it with that statement.

This game has great graphics and people actually get worked up about that? Today? Any AAA (or similar) game has fantastic graphics, graphics don't make a game (or certainly shouldn't). The art style is typical (typically ridiculous hooker-chic, nothing unusual unfortunately). Trying to really sell me on "revolutionary" game-play? Highly skeptical....

@Saker As a person who played TERA for 2 months before quitting with friends only to all quit at our Subs were up, I can say that the graphics of the game is NICE. The problem is that nice graphics don't make a game pretty, the art style does and there are a lot of places where the graphics made the game off putting.

@Saker Also let made that as a result of having a HOLY trinity system, the whole gameplay system falls apart in group play, since all you end up doing is standing the same spot and dpsing and when the bosses get enrage and starts charging randomly, u wait and when it comes close to you (i played a mystic) just teleport.

Haha, "Best sound effects". Any remember Gamepro or some other 90's video game rag that used to rate that as well as "fun factor" when tallying the final rating of a game? Talk about asinine things to be praising a game about.

I can't even think of a game where I thought the sound was so terrible it deserved mentioning. Perhaps on the Atari 2600 but nothing outside of that. I think the only time sound should be rated these days is where they are creating hallmark moments with it (i.e. Half Life 1) in the way it viscerally connects with the player, which too few games do.

I see your point and do agree, especially in this day and age. Sounds has certainly moved on from the 2600 and its kin.

But, there is a place for sound, like you mentioned Half-Life. Ambient sounds and even iconic sounds. Most people don't seem to pay attention but once those sounds are "off", they notice. Sometimes it can be for comical effect. It's mostly "use of sound" nowadays than straight out "sound". I can even see where a company may get lazy with light-saber hums and just make something in studio that fails.

@Space Cobra Yeah and just to be clear - this was a knock on TERA, but simply commenting on how odd of an award that is to receive in this day and age.

Seems unlikely, given these three threads:

It seems BH/EM is having a hell of a time with the whole pedo/non-pedo nature of the Elin, to say nothing of the rest of the races. Apparently in the current S. Korean build, the armor & context of the Elin is -illegal- in the UK. That probably won't fly well in the USA & Canada, either, or most of western Europe.

it had nothing to do with legality of the Elin's appearance, as it was more of a marketing measure that some at Froggster/EME felt would make the game more appealing to the western market. The game race/content et all has already passed both PEGI and ESRB in terms of ratings. They have since reversed their thinking on this to an extent, but either way this has nothing to due with the delay of the game. The delay is primarily due to waiting for enough content to be generated on the Korean side to hopefully give them a strong enough launch in the West.

Thank goodness for the UK's laws then, because leaving their armor the way it was is just....yeah. Revolting. I honestly don't understand why people thought thongs on a race that looks like that was going to pass muster in the West at all.

All the whining about 'censorship' aside, and as irritating as I might personally find TERA's 'Tee hee lingerie pillow fight!' armor styling to be, that was one change that absolutely needed to be made.

What? Really? "waiting for enough content to be generated" ? So it was enough content for S. Korea/Asia, but not enough for everyone outside of S. Korea/Asia?

Not seeing the logic.

You really need to read those threads. The "22088" thread has 223 pages, with people posting every 15 minutes, today. Today! From a topic started in March (the "15162" thread) that has hundreds of fanatical lunatics each pushing their own opinion regarding the Elin and the other races appearances.

If it's not THE reason? It is at the very least A reason for the delay of the game.

That's interesting.

What about it is... well.. "revolting"?

I'm very curious about this. Particularly as a lot of it, from what I've seen, is disgust at the people who could possibly find that sort of art attractive, and not at the art itself. Is that what you find "revolting" about it?

It just seems a very strong word for something that... well... really doesn't seem to warrant that sort of reaction on its own. It is, after all, merely skin on a virtual 3D (and rather heavily stylized) character model, so to elicit that kind of reaction...

There are 400+ pages of responses there in those threads that should answer your question.

Regarding your subtle attempt at turnaround:

Sometimes, when someone finds something offensive, they don't secretly like it. Really. Really-really.

It's true! Amazingly, some people hold opinions with conviction, and often, it won't be the opinion YOU have. ;-)

What?

You're reading into things too much. What I WAS trying to imply was that there is some kind of seriously unhealthy fixation with the negative aspects of cute character designs, which is not to say that they secretly like it, but rather that there is something inherently wrong with why they find something like it so incredibly offensive.

And there is no need to be snobby and state the obvious. The whole point of these comment threads is to state opinions, with or without varying levels of conviction. That's just a given, and implying that I cannot grasp this is all kinds of insulting. What I have trouble grasping is, again, the sheer level of emotional reaction to this sort of character design. It's incredible, really.

First step on the path of the false premise:

If the character designs were only "cute", there would be nothing negative to fixate on.

--
Evidently what makes something cute and what makes it offensive is a matter of opinion and subject to debate.

Just sayin'.

You're right, that is a false premise. Some people consider "cute" a negative trait in and of itself.

At any rate, I just want to see some elucidation on the matter. I remain eminently curious.

It probably has something to do with the fact that the race looks like an over-sexualized 12 year old. Hey, I'm all about over-sexualized stuff but this is totally borderline pedo imo.
