@FrostPaw

^^ What he/she said. I especially avoid anything PvP and/or FPS oriented. Alas and alack, most sci-fi-themed MMOs are both (SWTOR being a notable exception).

@FrostPaw Same for me, and I would like to add a few more to the list:
Perma death
Only endgame activity is gear grind raiding

@FrostPaw
Yep heavy PvP in a MMORPG I tend to avoid, hopefully one day Developers realize that most people don't like PvP that much outside of kiddie PvP battlegrounds which isn't real PvP.

When a game's main features are

"Play with people across the world!"
"Join forces to defeat powerful foes!"
"Craft heroic items!"

but when you do some further reading, it turns out to be a run of the mill themepark MMO.

The setting. If it's a science fiction game I'll hardly pay any attention to it.

Surprisingly I'm still interested in SWTOR. Might have to do with my previous experience with KOTOR.

Star Wars is the closest to Fantasy you can get on a Sci-Fi scenario.

Where else you will find sorcerers, knights, dragons, princesses in distress, etc, in a Sci-Fi? :)

@DarkWalker Warhammer 40k is a bit more fantasy-oriented than star wars, only it happens to be completely dystopian setting.

FFA PvP

Cryptic making the game

Cartoony anime graphics with a bright kiddy color palette

Out of the three, only the second is an absolute dealbreaker, I would probably try but not stay long if the MMO fit in the other two categories.

Setting and graphics. Wow for example never applead to me as I never played it back in the day, so it just comes off as archaic to me. Setting is usually pseudo-science-fiction (like rift or aion) that really turns me off of a game.

Exactly. I was really interested in Tera for example, but I couldn't care less about it now. Tooooooo long waiting and far too much info floating around. It feels like an old game by now.

The ones that copy WoW, oh wait, that is nearly all of them.

Hopefully GW2 breaks the mold.

Biggest turn offs:
F2P
Freemium
Cash Shops
P2P + cash shop

Still quite big turn off:
Very fast levelling + instance / raid grinding
LFG tools
Lack of challange in open world

Moderate to big turn off:
Subjective lack of immersion (overgrown swords, metal high heels, too cartoony graphics)

FFA pvp. (non-tiered totally open pvp sucks imo).
Perma death.
Cartoony graphics.
100% copy of something I have already played.
Aimed at kids
Designed with a console in mind
Limited classes
Limited personalisation
If the animations suck (from looking at a demo vid for example)

Jesus, I'm picky. Amazed I manage to play anything at all.
