"1.4 was a big patch, 1.5 was an bigger patch... 1.6 is going to blow them away," declares Trion Worlds' Hal Hanlin in this most recent dev diary for RIFT's upcoming From the Embers patch. RIFT's Design Producer is joined by developers Morgan Lockhart, Michael Daugherty, Mike Chang, Jason Colombo, and Berenger Fish to discuss the newest endgame zone, Ember Isle, the largest the team's undertaken to date. But it wouldn't be a proper dev diary without some gushing about the lore, art, locations, and mechanics of the zone, and that's all included too. Sweeping musical score included free of charge!

I have to hand it to Trion Worlds even though RIFT isn't my cup of tea they bust their asses on it and turn out some impressive work.

I wonder if there will be a mob every foot like there is now, I gave up on rift because of the mob density, couldn't enjoy the world when every 3 seconds I had to fight yet another mob.

Yep, still. Around the volcano is still thick with mobs every square foot. They must be expecting a lot of people.
Not sure why when the mobs in Ember isle give less PA than the mobs in the old areas as posted here pretty detailed:

Rift art= ok.
Rift armor= bad.
The armor in this game is worse looking than the green or grey junk armor other games have their NPC shops sell.

I respect your opinion but I disagree with you on the subject of armor in RIFT. It's the most realistic armor I have seen in an MMO and is incredibly detailed. With their system of dyes you can really get some outstanding pieces. Now if you are a fan of WOW supersized shoulder pads with lava rolling off the the sleeves, I understand, RIFT has a very different style. If you scroll in on RIFT armor you can see every stitch. To me that is a good thing not a bad thing.

@mifuneseven thx for the good reply.
I agree Rift has dyes that allow you to color your gear. That makes for some interesting color schemes.
But to me, coloring ugly designed gear just makes the color different, not the ugliness of the gear.
It's like having a hotdog but you don't like hotdogs. No matter if you put mustard or ketchup, relish or pickles, onions or kraut.. it's still a hotdog underneath.
If the person likes the look and style of the gear, that won't change because of color meaning "I like this gear, but I don't like the color". They like the gear style period.
Youre talking about changing colors which won't help if someone thinks the shape, design and fit (look) of the gear on toons is inherently bad, which I think Rift's armors are.
They have some that are nice, but I would say probably 90% of the gear in this game looks bad, and some classes have it worse than others (cleric gear looks the best imo.. rogue gear looks the crappiest)

I think I'll resub to try this patch out. I still have a lot to see in this game.

Most excited for the non-linear dungeon! While it's instanced, it might bring back some of the feel of EQ1.

Really love this game. Gladly resubbed (upped sub from monthly to a 6-month) for Ember Isle and more.

The mob density in Rift varies greatly from area to area. Gloomwood had too many spiders but Scarlet Gorge is the opposite. It has wide open spaces with few or no mobs. I was able to forage, mine and explore for artifacts there with a toon at a much lower level than I should have had. It was easy to sneak around the occassional red guy or beast.
