Magic > Science. Statesman wins every time.

Maybe, but putting a giant bullseye-like star on your chest is a good way to lose that advantage

Clarke never had Zeus' Lightning Bolt one shot him.

Statesman. No contest. If you can one-shot a Rikti battleship with a flying punch, you could totally crush Defender. In Champions (RPG) terms, Statesman is a Galactic-level character, while Defender is only a standard-level dude in a powered suit.

I think to actually have more than a popularity contest the author of this article could have researched some of the more impressive accomplishments of both heroes.

Also just because a battleship can be disabled instantly doesn't mean a superhero in SCIENCE! powered armor can be. Look at Ironman, he often withstood damage that any other piece of equipment of comparable size (or much larger) would have crumbled.

We can't vote for Superman, the "Superman" of DCUO?

It seems like, for some, unexplained and arbitrary reason, there's only ever going to be two options in this column. :\

Well, Statesman is clearly going to be dead by the end of the Who Will Die!?! arc. While I don't know anything about Champions Online or this Defender guy, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he could beat States' cold, lifeless body in a fight.

Defender was inspired by the battle of Detroit to invent his own power-armour technology and become a hero...

Statesman sought out and drank some dodgy-looking water, not knowing exactly what would happen.

Go figure.

Who would win in a fight?, meh! - subjective!.
Who has the bravest / most insirational Hero story?... easily Defender!, because he is just a man under all the armour, much like Tony Stark.

Maybe the poll should be who is the best at putting their lunchbox out there!, (as they are both guilty) - but again (even at expos) - Its Defender! ^^

Statesman wins in terms of sheer power.

Defender wins at being an interesting character.

Defender is boring, That is my biggest complaint about CO, the characters are boring and not developed enough. Statesman was a brilliantly created character. I chose Statesman because he is way more interesting, to me.

@madbassman39 Defender is boring because most of what makes him interesting does not make it into CO. You'll need to go look at the Champions lore. I have no opinion on who would win in a fight though.

Champions is my go-to Super MMO... But game-wise? Defender is pretty week. You end up saving his white and blue hide at the end of the very first tutorial, where as Statesman was always the 'big hero' everyone looked up to.

However, this is why I LIKE Champions over CoH. At the very start of the game, you're your own hero and not stuck under anyone's thumb. But if this was a straight up 1v1 battle (Pretending they were in the same game) Statesman would probably one-shot Defender. Lore-wise, I'm not so sure.

Now a contest between Arachnos and Dr. Destroyer? THAT matchup would be a lot closer.
