I loved the series, played them all, and multiplayer was great, nice entertainment. Sadly all i am seeing with the q/a is another microtransaction store FPS pay to win game. Pass.

@Graill440

In an interview on pc gamer, the lead dev said that pay for items arent going to enhance your mech or skills in any way.

i.e. MWO will NOT be pay2win.

My initial reaction:

"Mechwarrior? Oh, that reboot! New news?! ... It's ONLINE?! But... I---wait. Online? Really? I'll bet you can't pi---you can pick your house? What about gui--Mercenary Corporations. Okay, and what of the Clans? Oh, timeline starts in 3048, with 3049 being the year the game launches.

That's the start of the Clan invasions... I'm at a loss for words."

Really, this seems too good to be true. I'm just in awe. It's a dream game, coming to fruition.

Supposedly a 2009 buzz-trailer for Mechwarrior Online with logos from Smith and Tinker and Pirhana Games following.

please don't suck, please don't suck please pretty please don't suck. and by that I mean don't use the crappy Unreal engine as your platform.
And here I thought ToR would be my last MMO until Wildstar and now this were announced, ToR could suck balls and I'll happily move onto these two.

I've played mechwarrior competitively forever (since tabletop) and I am so happy for this news. Maybe we will harken back to the days of mechwarrior on the GEnie service. (before the internet boys and girls)

Ready to pack my jenner full of medium lasers and jumps jets folks! ( I was #3 for 6 months on the AOL ladder matches when mw2 first hit)

Can't wait!

Dueling on Solaris! :>

I think I even recall my old Comstar number, 5033 If my memory serves.

Aka MacFarlane*GK*

p.s: Miss the story telling on the GEnie bbs too, under the "Ghost Mech Cafe" topic back in 1992-95 time period. Good fun. :)

I have every PC-Mechwarriror game.
Mechwarrior was the first game i bought for my first PC..a Suntac 286 with 12 Mhz ^^
I was stunned form the game and never missed one of the Mechwarrior games.
The best to me is MW2 and MW3.
I would have loved if they had made the crescent hawks rpgs with more rpg and more tactics. instead of the Mech Commander series.

I hope they get it done right, i will give it a year to impress me...if its only a shooter with pay 2 win option...no!

I don't understand the fear so many people seem to have of F2P. There are some really good F2P games out there, and this is a very diverse MMO market. How many people can afford to pay $15 a month for more than one or two games at a time? F2P is what makes lesser known titles and games viable.

Consider it this way (hypothetical here)...you could pay $15 a month to have full access to MWO and everything in the game. If you do this, you're getting a sub based game. Or you could play for free, and probably be limited to 1 or 2 character slots, being able to join but not form a Merc Corps, and have access to the core planets and a dozen or so core mechs. You could then opt to spend $3-4 to buy access to a Mad Cat, Dire Wolf, Warhammer, whatever.

Decent F2P games have never been Pay to Win, as some people like to call them. Are there some of those out there? Absolutely! Is it possible MWO could take that route? Yes. Do I want it to take that route? Hell no. Does this mean I'm scared of F2P? Ummm...no. Again...F2P is an excellent business model, especially for a game like this, whose initial playerbase is going to be us old timer tabletop PnP or early NetMech DOS/95 players.

Just my opinion. =)

@Malagarr

I've been F2P-only for almost two years and I am still stunned by how many people won't just TRY one.

It's that there are so many F2P games out there that AREN'T decent, and/or don't really fit the tastes of "the Western audience."
