sounds good.

I just hope it won't be like World of Tanks... nothing would upset me more than "having" to go for an Atlas.... I really don't like Super Heavies =/

And please at least MW4 level of customization... A Raven with a Bombast Laser? Hell yes, please! :D

Across the U.S. a bunch of old mechwarriors from the old days on GEnie playing Kesmai's Mechwarrior probably wet themselves. Though we've heard this sort of stuff before, I refuse to get to hyped up about it.

Player of Lft. Gen. MacFarlane*GK* House Davion, Gunslinger, and one time merc for TBC and others. Those were fun and costly days at the hourly rates we paid to duel on Solaris and take over planets. Miss my MAD-3R.

Shame it's going to be 3049 with all that noobie Clan crap. Would have much prefer 3025 level with Sucession Wars.

Hmm on reading through the FAQ looks like they are going for a Sucession War style game. Sounding more and more like a Battletech version of World of Tanks. That wouldn't be a bad thing.

If you really want to play now and don't mind some dated graphics then mektek.net has the free version (completely legal!) release of Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries. Not a bad game for the age.

I am really pumped since Mechwarrior was one of those games that got me hooked on modern PC gaming after having played SNES and Playstations....

Jordan Weisman, founder of Smith & Tinker and previously founder of the disbanded FASA Corporation which worked on the MechWarrior series, negotiated the license back from Microsoft after the software giant left the property idle for years, since their last foray with the MechAssault series. Russ Bullock from Piranha Games was a long time fan of the series and wanted to start a joint collaboration with Weisman. He contacted Weisman to develop a prototype project that eventually became the new iteration in the MechWarrior series. Production of the new MechWarrior game first began on October 2008, where the two studios started discussing the project on pen and paper. After coming up with a presentation for a prototype scenario, both studios began ramping up a full-time team to work on the new game in March 2009.[2] In October 2011 a Twitter campaign was launched as the start of the advertising campaign[3].

If nothing else, I hope this gives Dream Pod 9 a kick in the pants. I want a Heavy Gear MMO. I'll settle for Battletech, but the Heavy Gear lore is so much more interesting and immediate.

@Angn

That would be awesome. I totally agree, especially since, unlike MW, the setting of heavy gear is as much a character as anything else. That and I love how reminiscent of venus wars and votoms it is. Goooood times :)

Excellent!

F2P is of no concern. There are plenty of quality F2P MMOs out there.

Just give me my Battlemaster and I'll be happy. =)

...now I think I can remember this game. A friend of mine was playing this a decade or so back. So I can least understand the same enthusiasm for this announcement, on the same level if there was announcement for a Pac-Man MMO. :)

Let's hope in the intervening 19 years they've improved things beyond what Cyberstrike had in 1993.

(Yes, in 1993, Canadians were playing Cyberstrike, a multi-player mechwarrior-style online game)

@mxt4347564czjv00q9w9qb1tppfr46hb

It wasn't just Canadians. lol. It was anyone in the North America playing Cyberstrike, though I never was really fond of Simutronic's Cyberstrike on GEnie back in 1993. At the same GEnie had Mechwarrior by Kesmai and that is where most of us played, not Cyberstrike.

Btw last I checked you can still play Cyberstrike still from Simutronics, via their website and of course a subscription. Simutronics btw is the company that designed "Hero Engine" that Bioware is using for their Star Wars MMORPG.

I still have the box to MW4 and Black Knight expansion in my closet. Awesome series, glad to see it making a return in any arena. Hopefully it can do something to add some life to the MMO genre, since everyone else is opting to be entirely derivative and unoriginal lately. Time will tell. I'm also hoping WH40K:DM will kick ass, which also remains another unknown variable at this point.
