In the future, battles will be fought via BattleMechs -- enormous walking tanks covered in weapons, waging war for control of the region of known space called the Inner Sphere. Sound familiar? It's the premise behind the BattleTech series of games, including the popular MechWarrior franchise. And apparently, in late 2012, players will have the chance to get inside a 'Mech of their own in a new online installment to the series, MechWarrior Online, announced by Piranha Games.
The announcement comes with a slew of questions and answers for expectant players, including information about customizing one's 'Mech, which of the classic designs will be seen in the game, and of course details about the world and timeline that the game takes place. There are no details regarding a beta at the moment, but the team seems quite insistent that the game will launch in 2012. It's certainly going to make next year interesting for all life-long MechWarrior fans.

I'll double the yes because this is a game series that is long, long, long overdue to come back to PC gaming. To have this as a MMO is even better.

Never heard of it. If it's a downloadable(Not Browser) F2P game, I'll try it out. If it isn't, well I'll overlook this pretty quickly.

I've been saying this on all kinds of threads here on Massively. I love Mechwarrior and have been posting all over the net for 8 years asking for a Mechwarrior MMO, but I'd never downrate a person because they hadn't heard of a game. An immature person would though.
Of course I am worried that this will end up with a cash shop at which point wouldn't play the game I've been waiting for almost a decade to be made.

Oooh yeah :D
Setting an MMO in the Mechwarrior universe makes sense for so many reasons. And here I was just hoping for a new MW game :)

@urgan It DOES makes sense but more in the tabletop version of Mechwarrrior, being the pilot with interpersonal interactions. rather than only stuck in the cockpit.
Because while fighting off enemies with superior numbers in superior mechs is dramatic in that uniquely videogame way...
having your barracks blow up...fighting your way in the dark past uber tech ninjas using cybernetics, ersatz lightsabres, and insane fanaticism, to get to your Mech and have to get through the startup procedure as people outside want you very much dead....
THAT is my dream. If it happens to be the fall of the Star League or other major in universe event, I might kill something for that.

Okay I'm interested. But if you tell me it has anything to do with F2P, Korea (no offense to the wonderful Koreans), browser-based, or Facebook, I'll block your site in my Firefox.
