They've been saying they will have caps on players for the first week or so, allowing more in in waves. I imagine it will mirror the early launch for the preorders for the most part.

@Halfcentaur

They'll probably have caps in place and raise them slowly, but it won't be the same as early access where you are invited in waves. It will be first come, first play.

Also, I know this is a different part of EA, but DICE made a lot of noise about how big their Beta was and how they wanted to be ready for launch and avoid the mess of BFBC2 where the servers couldn't cope, but exactly the same thing has happened to BF3, all sorts of server issues for PC & Xbox :(

It should be different with TOR because as far as we know Bioware will be in charge of servers, whereas with BF3 EA handled the servers.

It's not enough to alleviate some people's worries, but I'm confident in Bioware.

All of the pre-orders have a notion that allows you early entry; so maybe they have plans to allow people on in waves before launch such that by the time launch day arrives, everyone will already be in.

I like how Jef intentionally makes the title in a way to encourage EA bashing. Not that it isn't deserved at times.

I love the site, but I have been seeing a lot more of this recently.

This particular "writer" is the worst of the bunch for this kind of back-handedness. I am pretty much done with taking anything he has to write seriously.

Actually, the point of the newsblurb is extremely valid. EA's suit is trying to dance around the subject and give a political non-answer answer and Jef's actually trying to get some accountability from them for the benefit of us, the consumers/players. That's what good journalists are supposed to do. Jef actually brings a different point of view, unless you you only come here looking for undying fanbot bloggers that give free marketing and positive advertisement for the MMO industry.

let's just hope EA's servers can handle that much amount of traffic.

Jef can barely hold back his contempt for any TOR news article.

Heh, it's no secret massively isn't a theme-park mmorpg site. The editorial bent is one of the reasons why I have them bookmarked. I don't always agree but at least it gets me thinking about why I have the opinions I do.

Well thats funny seeing as he writes about and enjoys Age of Conan which is Themepark. I just think he doesn't understand/agree with all the hype for a game that doesn't really do anything special beyond a gimmick that doesn't exist at endgame (i.e. where you spend most of your subscriber time [and thus money])

I think he has become entrenched in this particular dismissiveness and it, in my opinion, warps his perspective so much that his writing is bent so predictably that it has become dismissible in and of itself, at least as far as reporting or commenting on Star Wars the Old Republic is concerned.

In my view, he has shown me that he isn't a writer to take seriously and, at the very least, they should no longer let him write on the subject of Star Wars the Old Republic as he can't even seem to just regurgitate a relatively straight-forward factoid with about the game without frosting it with some sort of snide sheen.

Nah, you guys don't "get" Jef, and that's fine. I sorta sense he likes to throw such curveballs at the public from time to time. At least BigAndShiny has a bit of a clue with Jef's articles about AoC, so all you gotta do is extrapolate from there. Jef's also prefers sandboxes, so there is that, too.

Basically, you gotta read a bit beyond the surface to discover Jef's point; he can use a bit of sarcasm to underline it, still you may not agree with it, but I feel they are valid points, even if I agree with him or don't.

Most of the writing isn't as dismissive as it is wrapped in a blanket of fun-loving and poking-fun-at. You gotta take it lightly; this is how I write at times, too.

Actually most of our coverage is pro-themepark, if there is such a thing (probably because there are so few sandboxes). Not that it will register with the folks who think they know me, but I've pre-ordered two TOR collector's editions, so I'm a far cry from what you might call a hater, lol.

Fluffy press releases on the other hand, yeah, I hate those.

This is a wait 3 month title for me. I don't see any need to wait in line at Disneyworld for the rollercoaster with this one.

And I can't blame EA for being careful. This will be the biggest online launch ever. I sincerely hope they are able to pull it off.

This is going to be one huge launch. If the American retail, non digital numbers at VGchartz is correct. The number of launch day users will be higher than any MMO ever has had before.

Im going to be pretty pissed if I do not get in on day one.. I preordered but could care less if i get in "early". Other than that I suppose the only thing i can do if i do not get in early is bitch and moan or say to hell with their game but i already coughed up 80 bucks to play it.... hmmm

@(Unverified) Yeah, I think that's a legitimate concern. They've been saying that they'll do a staggered roll out of early access, and I'm thinking that we're going to be test subjects for the method.

The only issue that has me concerned is that of the CD key. Our pre-order code only gets us into early access. This does not get us into live. Therefore, it is reasonable to suspect that we may be blocked from the lives servers if the game isn't delivered in time for us to enter the CD key.

I don't recall seeing this issue addressed on the SWTOR forums, but perhaps it has been and I haven't seen it.
