I think the real question is how many months of poor sales due to this game being restricted to just the PS3 will it take before they start looking into making it available for the PC?

@Kodiak I highly doubt the move to PS3 exclusivity was driven purely by their desire to sell a massive amount of copies. Most exclusives are time specific, i.e. even if CPP goes completely bankrupt because of this unless the agreement expires they can't release a PC version. By extension of course the moment that agreement expires it will most likely go to PC (not xbox of course since xbox-live is very restrictive and doesn't want to play well with others).

Could we please have a little less of CCP's fluff on here?

"DUST mercs accepting a contract from an EVE corp to take over another corp's territory on a planet"

And the DUST mercs end up getting backstabbed because well, they're dealing with an EVE corp.

Then the DUST mercs begin wonder why they're playing an FPS where they have to beg MMO nerds for contracts when they could be playing Gears of War or Modern Warfare or Battlefield where they are their own masters.

CCP does push innovation and they deserve credit for that but this concept really seems like a recipe that won't appeal to FPS players and will also tick off EVE's dedicated playerbase.

@Vandal Can't the mercs hire an EVE corp to help deal with enemy mercs?

@Vandal I thought that the merc can form heir own corporations, much like eve but without spaceships, or even join eve corporations. So basically they could take over planets for themselves. The downside of course from what I can tell is that planetary defence has two components, the space battle and the ground battle and anyone who has one side is disadvantaged.

Hang on your not suggesting that FPS players have short attention spans and would rage endlessly about getting meta-gamed by people from EVE Online are you. The EVE players wouldn't do that, they wouldn't want to see console player tears.

I think there will be quite a few Dust514 players that are goin to be in for a bit of a surprise with how ruthless the politicking is in EVE and expect things like spies in there midst to destroy their Merc corporations.

I'm going to need more popcorn for this one.

NPC faction warfare is the fallback. People who don't get involved in the metagame just pwn face for NPCs.

In my opinion, the only problem with this game is that it is not being developed for the PC.

Not sure why it gets so much hate for the PC/PS3 thing, I'm actually fairly interested in this in a way that I'm not for EVE. Even as somebody who dislikes EVE, I think the tie-ins between the two (and the technical side of it) is really fascinating.

Pretty excited for Dust, both as a game as just to see how it actually works. It should be interesting.

More than likely EVE alliances/corps will end up with their own private armies, the DUST players will be more like a standing military rather than mercs who work for the highest bidder.

Sure, there will be mercs like that, but thats the beauty of EVE....this will add a whole new dynamic to anti-pkers (police?), pirates, protection rackets and faction warfare.

At least, thats the idea. What CCP wants to happen, and what DOES happen may not coincide.

Can't see this ever going to PC, console owners would be made redundant overnight if that happened.

The level of disgust for Dust is amazing and that those who troll this article really need to get their heads out of their butts. Also stop dreaming this will go PC, cause it won't...ever!
It's a very ambitious move for CCP and like to see this succeed for them. The blog does provide some detail as to how they want to tie EVE and Dust together and can't wait to try this game.

You are in fact wrong about it ever going to PC. Basically CCP have already hinted that if it doesn't go well on the PS3 then a PC version will hit the market. A backup plan if you will.

And no I can't be arsed finding the reference.

I don't think so about the PC port.
As I said in another comment, DUST is being developed in the UT Engine, and porting from PS3 to PC is a piece of cake. Just add more high res textures and a better level of detail and we will have a PC master piece.

Launching this game only for PS3 is a mistake, but only God knows how much money Sony is putting on this game.

My question is, how about the latency? Playing EVE at 400ms is perfectly acceptable but a shooter?

They probably won't release it on PC and to the other guy, CCP never said anything about Dust on PC although some sites speculated that we might see it on PC (baseless speculation). Then it's also the problem of allowing PC players and PS3 players playing together (pad vs m&k as already mentioned).

Wrong, CCP spokesperson said "Yeah. We thought about all kinds of things. Right now, we’re pretty much just entirely focused on PlayStation. That’s what we’re going to remain focused on at least for the foreseeable future. But you know, who knows what happens in the future." I found no other article ever saying that they would do a PC version.

Sony never put money into Dust 514 and can find no article to substantiate that claim. To even claim it a mistake is opposed to what CCP has even stated on why they went to console.
Yes it may well be an easy port to PC but i don't see it happening.
As for latency they are looking at multiple locations for servers.
