@BigAndShiny

I might have read this wrong, but i think he was being ironic -- if you transpose one negative stereotype for another, its still wrong. Using 'gay' as a derogatory term is as bad as using the 'n' word was 10-20 years ago, its just we're more mature as a society now and in the later case its just jarring. People are calling out the hypocrisy, when they say 'toughen up'.

On a side note... calling all gays out as members of the alliance is something that should *never* be tolerated -- its hateful and discriminatory.

;)

The fact that people are doing much the same with different words says to me that this society hasn't done much maturing at all.

Just because a word has an original meaning doesn't make it OK: When someone uses certain words, you can rest assured they aren't accusing someone else of being a female dog, illegitimate child, or donkey.

I guess you're reminding people that the word faggot might imply fiery violence? Fair enough.

@fallwind I think the fact they waited until there was a negative reaction to the video instead of not showing it, or apologizing immediately, suggests they didnt learn much.

@fallwind Considering I was there and people were enjoying what was being said it wasn't until the people with their undies all in a bunch take it to heart and cry a river. In this world 99% of all apologies are nothing more a scheme to get out of trouble without really being sorry.

which is why they need to learn to not get in trouble in the first place.

Really, air a vid at an official event that insults 10-20% of your playerbase and NOT expect to get called on it? How did anyone think this was a good idea in the first place?

I don't think 20% of the population is gay, that seems extremely high and pulled out of thin air. Making stats up is annoying 97.6% of the time.

People need to stop being sensitive. There are stand-up comics and movies that make fun of every race, religion, sexual preference and it is funny even when it is your race, religion, sexual preference. The overly politically correct are by far the worst people in America. If someone gets on TV or Radio and goes into a prejudice rant then by all means tear the guy up. If someone is doing it as comedy, everyone knows it is comedy, then get off your high horse and learn to laugh a bit.

Ohh no someone just made a joke about a drunk Irish person, I am soooooo mad right now!

I actually dislike Blizzard even more now. Not because they showed the video, but the fact they felt they needed to apologize to overly sensitive overly PC people afterwards. Life shouldn't be so serious.

I hate when people need to change the world to make themselves feel better. We can't use the word "retarded" when joking around anymore, someone decide to make that their crusade. But that same person is too clueless to realize that the terms "idiot, moron, imbecile" all reflect a certain range of low IQs, which are in the range classified by the term "retardation". Why are those acceptable but "retard" isn't? Because a person made it their crusade for no reason and without the proper knowledge to really understand language.

Over sensitivity is right up there with animal abuse on my hatred scale, it is that annoying.

To the people who said "Think about the LBGT kids who are committing suicide". They aren't doing it because of comedy. They are doing it because of bullying in school systems and the lack of enforcement to stop that.

they have nothing to learn, if anything they have a lot to teach to others.

this was a clever attempt at shifting the focus from panda's backlash to something entirely different, where "someone else" made something negative during Blizzcon, and Blizzard, as the white knights they want to apparent, chant the "mea culpa I should have done it better" and everybody applauds them.

not working tho, the community uprage is over 9 thousand, and people will need more than a death metal singer behaving like a death metal singer ( that is, a total ass) to forget that Blizzard is abandoning their western playerbase to cater to the asians.

yes, there are comics and movies that make those comments, I don't go to those comics' shows, nor do I support those movies. This however was neither, it was a Blizzard sanctioned video at an official Blizzard event which was hosted, planed and presented by Blizzard. You can't get much more official than that.

Why they think they can choose to show stuff like that (which is their right) and still keep the support of their LGBT players is beyond me, hence why they need still have lots to learn.

and in closing: 10-20% are the numbers most statistically accurate surveys of the 1st world countries have reported. I would google the exact studies, but I'm at work and that kind of thing can get me fired.

@SnarlingWolf Newsflash: Non-LGBT people can become offended when they hear LGBT people be insulted. So yes, 10-20% isn't that far off.

Newsflash: Saying "Alliance are f@gs" is not comedy. It is not said as comedy. It is said as harassment.

Newsflash: Even if it were comedy, people like Tracy Morgan saying (and he did say this) that he'd stab his son to death if he told him he were gay, it isn't funny. And yes, it is PRECISELY that type of "comedy" that drives insecure youths to suicide.

They won't learn from it. Don't you remember when Modern Warfare 2 was coming out? They had a video come out called "FAGS: Friends Against Grenade Spam". They're called ACTIVISION BLIZZARD. Activision is the keyword, as Mike Morhaime REPORTS to Bobby Kotick (he's not even the number 2 of the company after the massive company reshuffling).

The fact of the matter is, they feed off the tweens, and if you saw the video, it sounds more like he's forcing every line, looking, or reading a script and ad-libbing parts of it. I really don't feel a genuine, absolute hatred from this guy, but at the same time, the sheer fact that the crowd went crazy during the rant shows why I no longer play the game. Not because it "got too popular", it got too popular with the wrong people.

It's also the reason I stopped listening to folks like Hollywood Undead. I like some of their songs... but then they start up with the homophobe screaming during their songs. Besides, they got one of the worst screamo bands to get up there. If they wanted a good band, they should have gotten Arch Enemy. Nemesis to the tune of the Undead? Yes please.

I find people who downrate a discussion more sad and pathetic than someone who uses "fag" in the wrong way. Just saying.

Downrate this to prove my point.

There's no newsflash there. Overly sensitive people get offended easily no matter their race, religion, gender. or sexual orientation.

You know what gives "bad words" their power? People being offended by them. If people woke up and didn't get offended by it, no one could use that word to insult anymore.

Sensitive people cause 10x as many problems as people who use a word in an inappropriate way.

You know why the word "redneck" didn't become as offensive as other insults? The people who it was generalizing embraced it and took it as their own. Now if you were to call someone a redneck who lived that type of lifestyle, they'd probably respond with "Hell Yeah!".

Newsflash: The people getting all hot and bothered by this kind of stuff are the same ones who give it more power and cause it to happen more often.

Downrate this to show you agree.

actually, what gives those words power are people with legally appointed authority telling someone that they have to pay twice the taxes as someone else because their marriage isn't politically sanctioned. Or, the hospital security that have the power to toss you out when your parter of 50 years is dieing... or the pack of thugs with bats and 2x4s who don't think you are women enough to use a public bathroom.

Those are what gives those words power, not a scared teen crying in their room, or a trained professional in line at a food-bank because their boss found out who they went home to each night.

upmod if you agree.

Silly comparison. People rally behind the term redneck because it's a term derived from people being outside working, which is something those people can embrace and be proud of.

Now, if you call them White Trash, they get upset. And rightly so.
