Just further proof that crappy, run-of-the-mill Asian MMOs don't work in the West.

@Oyjord

I don't know how many employees ncsoft has, but on the face of it this looks much better than what hit CCP.

I sure hope ArenaNet and Paragon Studios are not going to be screwed because of this. I feel sorry for those about to lose their jobs, I hope they will get a new job soon.

I have never heard of Carbine Studios until now. But still I hope they will be ok and the layoffs will not effect them too much.

I always hate hearing news like this. :(

"Just as an FYI to our Community,

Paragon Studios was not affected by the reorganization and both Paragon Studios and NCsoft remain committed to the development of City of Heroes Freedom.

Thanks!

@stamps79 and @Lucidus

Thank you both for the info. I will have to look that up and see what that game is about.

@Ehra

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this, I would have checked myself when I got off work but this saved me the time. I am glad that Paragon is doing ok, I may no longer play CoH/V but I still like the company and the game.

NCSOFT needs to WAKE THE FRACK UP!!!!

What they NEED to do, is make CITY OF HEROES their FLAGSHIP TITLE for the time being, and give paragon a REAL budget to build on COH the way it should be!

Once Guild Wars 2 is released, then it will become the new flagship title, though BOTH with share the limelight.

GW1, Aion, Lineage and the other titles should NOT have a bigger budget that COH and its obviously hurting both COH and NCSOFT lol

Some days, I wish I could just go to EVERY MMO studio and just TELL THEM what to do and if they all just follow what I say, EVERY GAME would gain an additional 1-5million new players over the next 6 mos, would change their games to be REAL mmoRPGS! not linear mmo console hybrids like we see todaay!

Once the RPG comes back to mmorpgs and RPIng becomes the norm and what the games are built around (like it used to be) then we'll see mmorpgs hit a new height of success.

Promotion (ANY!) will bring in millions of new players, not making the games F2P, which every1 will see in the next few years when f2p FAILS.

@(Unverified) Reading the first paragraph, I thought this was sarcasm and I was about to + this. The second paragraph made me thing you were being serious though and I was rethinking my initial instinct to + this. The last paragraph made me really hope that this was sarcasm.

I've been a big fan of every gaming company hiring a WTF guy to just sit in on meetings and question the stupid things they come up with.

For instance with BF3 dev "we want to launcht he game using a web browser"

Wtf Guy "Are you fracking retarded? How is that even remotely a good idea?"

See :)

"there were further layoffs in the quality assurance and billing departments"

Did they have any quality assurance staff? I wasn't aware that they did.

More seriously, good wishes for swift re-employment to all affected staff and their families.

Is possible that this has to do with Garriott ruling.
32 million is a big chunk. I just wished the execs in Korea who decided to
screw Richard would have been more cautious in making this decision.
Now it has hurt many good employees.

@BubleFett I don't blame Garriott at all. NCsoft is the one who broke the contract so they are to blame for the jobs lost.

It means: "Hey Westerners! You don't want to play our game? Fine. We'll take our jobs and go home!"

The funny thing is they are shifting jobs back home to Korea from the U.S. "in an effort to put a greater focus on the success of the Western-developed games from NCsoft, and the long-term services MMOs require, we announced a global restructuring to our Western publishing team.

World economy rears its ugly head, and Korea wins the jobs.

"Earlier this morning Massively received an anonymous tip that NCsoft terminated an undisclosed number of employees at its Austin, Brighton, and Seattle offices earlier this month. According to our tipster, "many operations jobs are leaving Austin and being contracted back to Seoul," and there were further layoffs in the quality assurance and billing departments, with "with many more put on 60-day notice."
.....

A): Normally I wouldn't laugh, redundancy is (after all) no laughing matter for those involved and I usually would wish all those involved the best of luck finding future employment - but this is NCSoft, and this sentiment is specifically for those at NCSoft AUSTIN which is where their sue-happy kneejerk-reaction legal team is based. So to all you legal eagles in Austin plucked bald by redundancy and who had previously made players lives a misey through their idiotic judgements I say "KARMA! - IN YOUR FACE! - HA!".

B): Brighton? - aka: Mocatta House Brighton?, and whats left of the EU support team after the 58 person massacre back in 2008?.
Geez, I'm surprised theres anyone left to answer the phones there anymore!.

Urr.. you really think they are laying off the LAWYERS? really?

The lawyers are usually the last ones to receive any actual money. The people affected here are 'common folk'.

Besides, how long do you think a lawyer is going to be out of work before they run out of money and can't pay a mortgage? Not too long.
