I tried DDO and paid for three months last year to unlock races and earn Turbine Points, I was surprised by its fine design and graphics as I was expecting something oldish (better than GW1 but a bit too "bloomy"). The dungeons and missions were fun, you really feel the adventure spirit and danger of evil places, with riddles, different traps to find and disarm, secret places to discover (only with skills), the necessary use of different classes' skills to go through, a customized reward system according to your level and the dungeon's level, guild's airship with lots of one-hour buffs. So all in all if you haven't yet, try this game for free, it's definitely good and unique.
But three elements really annoyed me:
1) the heavily instanced world à la Guild Wars and the private dungeons, as the first time I fell in love with MMOs (Legend of Mir II) was due to the fascination of meeting other unknown players in the middle of nowhere doing their stuff.
2) the inability to recover automatically my health but the need instead to run to recovery stones in instances (that won't recharge afaik). As a solo player I disliked a lot the need to look constantly at my health bar and the inability to finish some missions because I couldn't simply rest to regain my health. And don't start with pots :-P
3) the complex and obscure skill tree: of course, you can pay to reset a wrong one but you have to read a deep wiki to understand its byzantinism and some skills look useless, so I never knew if my (humanoid :-P) monk made the right choices at every level (for instance I chose a lot of swimming and jumping points as I thought they were original for a MMO and may help me later overcome special obstacles but people told me they are useless...)

I am not playing any MMO games right now. I am looking forward to SWtOR and Secret World. Looking back I had the most fun in DDO, we had some good laughs, I still think of going back.
