"Now can we please get a launch date for GW2?"

Are we now at the point where we've substituted GW2 for SWTOR? Seems like I saw this line about a month ago.

@SunnyRavencourt Actually, I ended up pre-ordering SWTOR because Guild Wars 2 doesn't have a release date announced. I still see The Old Republic as a typical MMO clone with story stacked on top and very little innovation else where, but the story stuff should be interesting for awhile. I am, after all, a huge fan of KoTOR.

I could have pre-ordered GW2, which is the one that I'm actually most interested in, but I'm not putting money down on it until I know how much longer we'll be waiting for it. At this point, I figure that it will be long enough to get some enjoyment out of TOR.

On the other hand, GW2 could be released in a week from now for all I know. /shrug but that's kind of the point.

Congrats to both games!

I'm excited for Star Wars: The Old Republic and hope to play it soon and I'm excited for Guild Wars 2 to launch to be a side MMO.

@J45neoboy

I had a great time playing Star Wars the Old Republic during tester weekends. I am really looking forward to the game now. I hope to try out out GW2 during the beta period as well.

@Verus
They're on track for closed beta by the end of the year, and they've said that they plan on doing open beta very, very close to release. I would say it's definitely safe to expect it in 2012, and probably before summer.

You're welcome, Matt! I've been keeping my ear to the ground as far as European game conventions are concerned (part of my 'living vicariously' plan until they decide to come eastwards a bit XD).

I'm glad for both GW2 and TOR -- somewhat jealous that the latter now has a very firm launch date on both sides of the pond, whereas there's still a lot of guessing around in regards to GW2. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd probably lean towards Q2 or Q3 2012, since they keep saying that it will go into closed beta by the end of this year, while open beta will be a very short, 'preview' type of affair, close to launch.

So right now it's probably a case of them not discovering something horribly broken in the beta or deciding that some systems need yet another overhaul (why hello there, trait system, how are you today?) Either way, I've got several things to tidy me over.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha....ha. That is the most hilarious date I've ever heard. Do you really think Anet will release their game on new year's day?

Most places that sell games will estimate a release date in order to start collecting preorders. They have no more knowledge of the release date than the fans do, and trust me, as soon as Gamestop knows, so will we.

Also, they have yet to announce any form of Collectors Editions for GW, and I highly doubt they'll announce one so close to a supposed "release date".

Gawd SWTOR best MMO... It speaks volumes about the state of the genre.

Can we lift the NDA yet so i can tear this game a new asshole?

@Eric Francis

There are plenty of people who hate the game enough to break the NDA to "tear the game a new asshole" but unfortunately, each person just comes off sounding like a publicly masturbating git.

If you were to wait for the NDA and give out your opinion of SWTOR without looking like you are ripping into its anus, then you'd probably have a greater effect on people that desperately need your guidance to venture far far away from this horrible game that will hunt down our families, rape them, then make us eat their remains.

Not surprising, GW2 is *very* popular/expected here in France.

UUUmmmm awards for games that have yet to be released????

can you say "Nothing but a PR exercise" I mean I'm eagerly waiting for SWTOR but come on, winning awards before it's even out. That's just lame.

Well, Here's how i see it: SW:TOR will be the more advanced version of wow that will be the most popular but still basically the same old thing, whereas GW2 will be the more advance(and likely more popular) version of age of conan. That is to say, a skill-based mmo with somewhat less popularity then the current reigning champ. I will be playing them both since one is btp and 1 is sub based, although I will prob play TOR more seeing as how:
A-I'm a huge Star Wars fan.
B-Not sure i'm ready for the huge change that is GW2
C-I don't like the idea of not having healers(they are my favorite role to play, especially in a pvp environment)
D-SW:TOR is a sub so i want to get my moneys worth.

You are correct. What people fail to realize is that WOW is incredibly popular because of the ease of play. More skill-intensive MMOs result in fewer subscriptions because not everyone has the skill level. TOR will have higher numbers because, like WOW, anyone will be able to play it. GW2 will have fewer numbers because it requires more skill, thus catering to the semi-hardcore crowd. Tera will have fewer still, because the skill required in that game is even more than GW2. So only hardcore players will be in Tera.

I might try GW2 because its free, but the stupid anime-style quest/talking scenes annoy me.

@mizcal For the sake of clarity, I thought I might tell you that you're probably suffering from a memory lapse. Nothing in Guild Wars 2's [art direction/concept art/character animation] remotely resembles anime. I have no idea where you thought you saw that, but it wasn't GW2. Unless your interpretation of "anime-style" is just wildly different from mine.

@mizcal

Tera requires more skill than gw2 x'D tera wasn't as popular as the developers had hoped from the reviews they got from the testers, not to mention that the skill cap was reached within no time at all, and that's considering that it is classic lvl curve.
plus gw2 skill system/combat is a notched up version of gw, which as far as I'm concerned is still the most complex skill system out there, just to practice for gw2 I play vindictus/dn/dwo/battlefieldf2p. Tera is prob going to be a great game, but skill wise =S

is it only me who find it odd that the people(most votes) chose gw, and that the judges(far fewer votes) chose TOR??

blargh I'm prolly just being a paranoid conspirationist ~~
cheers with the awards for both games though!
