Am I doing it right?

ya pretty much, but if you say anything negative means it wrong and should discarded? The expan lacks substance.

Mind you, I haven't played WoW in almost 2 years, but after watching Blizzcon, how can you say it lacks substance?

New Race: Check
New Class: Check
New Talent Trees: Check
New Dungeons / Raids / Etc: Check
New Pet Battle System: Check

I'm sure I'm missing some.

Let's be clear about opinions and facts. To you, the expansion may lack substance because you're not interested in what it is offering.

The fact of the matter is that they are releasing an immense amount of content for all types of players in this next expansion. That cannot be denied after what was shown at Blizzcon.

If I could get a carebear pet, I'd buy a year sub straight out.

@(Unverified) I'm not for the new race or setting, but saying the expansion is lacking content is laughable. They're adding more this time around than the last ones.

Evidently, you don't know that the word "substance" is subjective, meaning different things to different people in the context in which it was used. Therefore if their definition of substance is the same as mine, in that the expansion offers nothing of interest to a gamer who seeks a challenge and little more than fluff content for anime/furry enthusiasts, then I would agree with him.

Whether there is substance is the issue that is not really being debated. It's whether the substance is of any quality to the player to be worth investing in another expansion, let alone a continued subscription. That is the fact of the matter.

I think you made a good point, it is rather subjective. The Pandas and the monk class is interesting, but really didn't have that feeling it can stand alone. It's to far from the existing Wow world. There always nay sayers, and we all know that, but the annoucement and details isn't making alot of people say" Wow! I got to have that!" I'm not downing Wow, it's done some amazing things in gaming, and still can in the future, this just isn't good enough. Perhaps going back to the drawing board and tweaking some ideas might be a good plan for Blizzard.

I never knew Blizzard did dev chats. This is new?

And they scheduled after the DCUO dev chat and before Gamebreaker's TV Legendary. That was nice of them.

Not new at all... they've done a bunch of these before.

What is news here is this announcement is being posted I think for the first time in Massively. (Normally it just gets posted at WoW Insider.) I'm not sure if its because we've been rather vocal about what's going on with WoW of just late. Or Massivley is getting wind of something we don't know about yet that maybe as revealing as the CCP public apology letter a week or so back. Or both.

I'm surprised at all the panda hate, what makes them such a reviled animal? I've always thought they were pretty cool creatures.

1. They're not standard in Fantasy.

2. They were the punch line of two of Blizzard's past April Fools jokes.

3. Kung-fu Panda. Yes Pandaren "existed" before, but that doesn't change people's perception that Kung-Fu Pandas are associated to a silly Kid's movie.

Because they're too "silly" or "cutesy" for some people to handle. WoW is serious business. You can trade candy in order to get a cat on a broomstick that follows you around or race against NPCs on drakes, but having pandas and pet battles in the game are too childish.

@slickie Because they are basing an entire expansions worth of content around a neutral brewmaster from Warcraft 3.

And not to mention that Blizzard is going away from it's lore path. They need to be doing The Emerald Dream not Pandas, which they perceive to be highly wanted. Few people want a cutesie animal as an expansion over people who, like me, have purchased all their RTS games (yes I have WC1 on 5 1/4" and WC2 on 3 1/2" floppy) and would rather they stick to the lore. Not to mention The Nether and some other parts they could be doing.

Not to mention that in the past they have talked about adding it in and they already have 4 world dragons that guard the portals into it.

@potaco

Well, every expansion has had someone tied to the lore. Who do the Pandas have?

Onyxia / Nefarian tied to the Blackflight + an Old God
Illidan and TBC + Archimonde and Kil'jaeden
Lich King for WotLK and another Old God + Naxx revamped
Ragnaros and the whole Burning Legion for Cata and Deathwing

Pandas? Where do they fit in.

At least with the Emerald Dream you'd have Druid lore + more of the Dragons.

And I assume the whole Sargeras thing would be the last expansion unless they make another Panda April Fools Joke expansion.

@(Unverified) I agree. The fact they are not pursuing either the Emerald Dream or the Twisting Nether is pretty criminal. At least us Blizz fans have D3 and SC2 to fall back on, but it feels weird as it's the first product they've made I have absolutely zero interest in.

It's going to be weird skipping an entire expansion for me as I've played every single one up to now. Perhaps they'll address the Emerald Dream in the next one, at which point I'll re-sub. For now, however, those into cheesy, corny themes are going to be enjoying this thoroughly and I hope they have fun :).
