I would love to see the world of Dereth make a comeback. That love, however, is tempered by the fact that Turbine's upper level management would start the whole process by trying to figure out how to "monetize" every tiny little thing about it which would inevitably sway me away from buying the game.

I'll tell you how to monetize it. You make a solid stable game like you did with AC1 and charge a flat monthly sub. You can even up that sub price by 3 or 4 dollars. People will come and the game will pay for itself plus some.

Plus, of course, they would make it as much like WoW as possible.

Some things are best left in the past, where the happiest memories of them lie undisturbed.

Yeah, about the "End of the MMO world" thing, it's kinda weird, yet exciting and yet boring, even if you are actively involved/interested in that certain game.

I've seen some mature viewpoints in some games, but nowadays, there does seem to be the few posters who flame up the forums in various places. You can either try to douse the flames, try to calm folks, participate in the chaos, or just ignore it (continue posting or just avoid the forums). At a certain point, it can be entertaining, but I find more entertainment if I am not particularly invested in a title.

Generally, people are concerned about the future and they may/may not speculate and that leads to much forum drama; this tends to happen when devs don't communicate, so it's basically player's needing reassuring (and sometimes that doesn't help because you will get a few that just *have* to be "chicken litte" in their mindsets). ;P

A long time ago (2006 I believe) I was working at GameStop. We had a Turbine rep come in. I asked her if they would bring back AC2 or release the source code. She explained to me that AC2's graphics engine is what was used for LOTRO's and that essentially AC2 was just a test run for LotrO. It makes me sad I miss spending time on Linvak or Omashon doing those epic item quests where you got the mold and had to run dungeons to forge them.

I miss AC2, no MMO compares, no MMO ever will.

I feel you man, I miss it. So many memories, the environment / world will never be replicated.

Nothing matches the immersive vibe of ac2.

The Asheron's Call series really should make a come-back. AC1's still around, but, hell, even a single player game would be nice. The lore alone blows most of these other MMOs out of the water.

One thing that AC2 had that no other MMO has done since is an awesome knock-back mechanic. You could literally send people over hills.

Only thing that killed AC2 was a total lack of endgame. Took a month to fully level a char with casual play and I leveled two as I had so much fun. But then boredom set it. Still though, I really miss that MMO.

@SwissKat You probably only played AC2 on the first years, befor heroe and level 150 cap came out.

I loved AC2, and really miss it !

I played a lot of WoW affter AC2 had shut down, but i would cancel all my other accounts to replay AC2 if it was still possible.

I loved Asheron's Call, had a great world, great feel to it and the character development system was one of the best. I would love to see a new version of Asheron's Call the original with new visuals and some gameplay updates. Asheron's Call 2 was ok but it just wasn't the same as the original AC.

Neither one. Still evaluating GW2 and TOR.

AC1 in its time before the bots was fun, but i need graphics and a community that isnt based on botting or useless guild mechanics.

As for AC2, the devs and devs alone detsroyed that game. Hell, one dev coudnt figure out who they were let alone be the saviour of that doomed title.

In AC2's case the subs spoke volumes and the devs paid the ultimate price by losing jobs and the title.

I think people 'screaming for the end of the world' needs to be looked at a little differently in something like STO then in, say Rift.

In many cases, MMO companies have mangled some of peoples' most beloved IPs. The only way to get it back and stand a chance of getting their worlds put into the hands of a different developer would be for 'the world to end'

I'm not criticizing STO or any other IP - I've played STO a little and I guess it's fine. IMHO it could have been a lot more. I don't wear Tuvok underwear though, so take my opinion to the extreme and that's what I think we're looking at.

I think that's why people get so nasty around Star Wars too. I saw the first one when I was six and absolutely every kid I knew had a SW collection growing up. It was absolutely a dominating force in my life and probably that of 90% of the other guys my age. Star Wars, from my perspective almost looks like two separate IPs at this point - before Phantom and after Phantom. While SWG was a nod to pre-Phantom, SWTOR is most definitely catering to folks who started with Phantom, Clone Wars the series, etc.

I'd like to see, say SWG with EA/Bioware $$ injected, but this won't happen unless SWTOR dies. See my point? Again, I don't where Boba Fett underwear (anymore) so at this point I'm just hoping SWTOR can give me that old Star Wars feeling in some way I haven't thought of yet.

As far as STO - I'm pretty much done there - it hasn't lived up to my expectations and it's going F2P, which I'm not a big fan of (heh).

LOTRO *is* AC3. We knew that while we were playing AC2 that Turbine was putting all their effort into LOTRO - that's why stuff like broken chat stayed broken all those months.

@Chiren god that was such a joke, buggiest chat ever. Also remember the mega lag when you got out the training area and you had to run down that huge hill. You would lag then find yourself at the bottom dead. RIFT makes me think of AC2 from time to time when I am exploring a dungeon with my homies.
