Sound is usually the most neglected part of MMO's.

This sounds promising. Quite promising, indeed.

@Yoh

Yes they are. ArenaNet is trying to improve all areas of the MMO.

Actually it's more accurate to say that they are improve all areas of conventional wisdom MMO's. They're still cooking with the same cook book, their just not idiots about it.

Kind of gives me flashbacks to when WAR would release videos of their sound guys doing crazy stuff like playing piano while driving a car...

Scary, but I have faith in ArenaNet and GW2.

@heerobya I saw that video. If I remember correctly, that was the composer of the game score, not a sound effects guy.

As a former sound engineer, I can attest to using structures like this that produce acoustics you can't duplicate in a digital environment.

I used to work at Village Recorders in Los Angeles, and they had an echo chamber under the building that was almost as big as the building itself. it could create some unbelievable echo and presence effects. It's this kind of effort to create unique content that has me looking forward to this game.

Sounds great but they need to do a better work on their voice overs. The ones I heard were terrible.

@Verus

Game is still in alpha. Voiceover will be worked on. The Norn females at the last few conventions sounded much better. Still have a ways to go but I trust ArenaNet to fix them before launch.

id like to point out that sound is generally the last thing to go in during a development cycle.

so in all likelyhood the game is now feature complete and ready for beta testing for the most part.

@cerebrix

I wish I had your optimism. My first reaction to seeing the headline was...

WTF!! They're still working on the sound!?!? We're not going to see this game until 2013 if at all...

Hope they're just buttoning it up.

@yeppers

Well, every game I've ever worked on, sound was one of the last things tong in.

You can do main development with placeholder sounds. Most teams do

@nightsong89 Yeah, especially since there's no typo, as everyone can clearly see!

(In the interest of full disclosure, there WAS a big fat typo, and I went back and fixed it thanks to daecu.

Don't blame Rubi, blame the obvious amount of radiation that has somehow managed to get itself from the power plant to A.Net, and from A.Net to their blog, then the blog to her...

Also, is anyone else sprouting a bunch of fur after watching the video...? I'm starting to get worried...

GW2 sound effects are extremely well made. It's totally noticeable if you get to watch vids from cons with good audio. Respect for anet once again

There is an acoustics lab on the site as well, I am surprised it wasn't mentioned, but I am guessing they had very different needs.
