As we inch closer to some big MMO releases in the latter stage of the year (and on into 2012), Trion is looking to keep RIFT firmly established in the minds of gamers everywhere. To that end, the company has just released a new two-minute trailer called Endless Adventure. The clip highlights all of the big bullet-point features (raids, world events, PvP, etc.), and shows a smattering of gameplay footage from each.
The trailer also focuses on the flexibility afforded by RIFT's soul system, and though the huge, blocky fonts and bright text colors are somewhat distracting when paired with the game's lovely visuals, the clip does a good job of summing up RIFT for the uninitiated (or the unsubscribed). See for yourself after the break.
I want Rift to do well, maybe partly because I want WoW to stop being the undeserved "king," but also because from my time with it it really seems like a good game.
However, I'm too busy riding the GW2 hype train to play it :p
Is WoW really the undeserved king? I broke myself of the WoW addiction about a year ago. Sure it's not the game it was but it's still the best MMO I've ever played to-date. I really want one of these MMOs released or in development to be at least, if not better, than WoW was. I really want another game to come along that is worth $15/month for all content. So far every MMO released since WoW has been sub-par IMO.
Can't stand the F2P trend either. They're too much like coin-op video games.
Like you, my hopes are up on GW2. GW1 being my #2 favorite after WoW.
WoW is currently king for those who want to raid currently. It's not really king in anything else anymore regarding game play. RIFT, among othe games, are slowly filling the other niches...
...as I predicted sometiime back (and at the risk of being off-topic): No single game will kill WoW. But a bunch of smaller games in verying degrees of success will chip at WoW solid player base. And now with Wow's singular focus, it's even made weaker with games that offer more ways to advance characters.
In the evolution shceme of things, WoW is not learning to adapt properly. Thus become vulnerable for it's specialization in comparison to other species of MMO's that have mutl-faceted ways of dealing with different and changing environments, whether they are new or old. Unless Blizz does something truely radical with WoW, thus letting go of it's raid or die paradigm...I don't offer much hope of it maintaining it's number one spot amongst its competiton.
Edit: I just noticed its BlizzCon is this weekend. Perhaps they'll announce changes to WoW that will force me to eat my pigtails over this. Then again...I wouldn't hold my breath either.
Rift surpassed WoW in terms of quality and variety of features a while ago. Even if the number of subscribers of WoW is larger, Rift is currently the MMO that is setting new industry standards in multiple fronts.
i understand where you are with this, having just quit WoW about 8 months ago myself after 6 years, but having just reached end-game in Rift, i can say it's easily on par with WoW.
sure, it's not cute and fuzzy like WoW, but what it lacks in functionality and community from WoW, it more than makes up for the fact that Trion is constantly pumping new content into the game faster than any company before them, with an ever-increasing level of quality. if you did the first world event, and the last two, you'll understand what i mean.
Agreed. It was well presented, and quickly gave the viewer a complete overview of what the game offered. The music fit well and gave an epic feeling to it.
My only gripe, ironically, is that massive Massively logo that covers the text at the end. It is obvious that they didn't check it, or just didn't care.
A few weeks after release i tried out Rift, at the time i was still active in WoW.
Since then my time to commit to mmo's have shrunk, but while my WoW account remains cancelled my Rift account stays active, atleast there i know monthly updates are the norm not the exception and equally important the content updates are not always simply a raid and some dalies quests with a new dungeon but they focus on several parts and branch out to the point people can duo or solo experience and take a look inside the bigger raids.
Although the similairities and the questing for the biggest part being the same stuff we all experienced before, the rifts and zone wide invasions keep things interesting.
tbh this is what I would have preferred as their original add (well it would have been without the content updates). I think they should have done something like this than the "you're not in azeroth anymore" tag. I love RIFT but I stopped because I can't afford to pay to play two games and my friends didn't stick around in RIFT long enough. I'm excited to see the content they will be adding continuously.
End-game wise we have tier 1 and 2 Experts, a Mastermode dungeon (basicly wow herioc + wow herioc on steriods), 2 10 Man raid dungeons, 2 20 man raid dungeons in the Tier 1 and up to tier 1 bracket.
these provide a new player rising up well into the 2-6 month range of content (depending on much you play ofc) took me 4 months to clear the T1 raid content with my guild from launch.
then there is the Tier 2 raid, 20 man raid (basicly icecrown citadel in size) AND we're getting a new 10 man Tier 2 raid + a lvl50 only Zone in 1.6
...so ye.. fix what in end-game, as end-game wise, this game is pretty much keeping up with the best guilds (only 4 guild worldwide have the Tier 2, 20 man cleared), and at most they get to wait 4 more weeks for the new 10 man.
@Temko Well from what i remember Warriors used to be terrible at PVP, and Trion in general were shocking at class balance. Macros in Rift were quite poor as well. I remember i had to use the macros on my mouse because the in game macros were so poor.
