APB is another game that had at least at one point (not sure now) a plex-like system.

Plex was a great idea that made it through and became accepted, but CCP could have pt a bit of that marketing muscle on the idea to spin it better.

well what sucks with all the others mmo´s they dont have use in game cash to pay subscription so in my opinion they suck so it is not rely as PLEX cuz plex can u buy with ISK and get 30 days free time to play the other 3 mmos sell some crap or OP stuff for real cash. So in my opinion it´s not similar in anyway with the greater plex.

....yeah because you totally couldn't buy a crapton of PLEX and change that into ISK then buy and subsequently twink out the biggest baddest ships in the game...

No CCP doesn't directly sell an advantage they simply indirectly sell an advantage. So its really six of one, half dozen of the other.

You sir need a round of applause for actually understanding what ThePeon25 actually said. I read it and i think i passed out for a couple of minutes because of the terrible grammar.

Seriously, couldn't actually understand what he was trying to say.

@(Unverified) : the Eve Plex system sells you the power to embarrass yourself by buying an expensive internets spaceship for real money, and then getting it blown up because you don't know how to fly it properly. :-)

Nah I dont care about the other games all im saying I like the Plex system because it offers 2 options for paying so if there comes a month when u can´t afford to pay you 30 days to play eve u still have the option to pay with isk meaning u can still play.

and next time Slimneb I will use so much bad grammar that u die of it instead of passing out.

Well, no..You couldn't. You could sell enough plex to BUY the biggest and baddest ships. Unless you have the training to fly them however you wont be using them for a long time.

Also. People use cheap ships for pvp, not expensive ones.

Well I am very conservative in this matter.

I am against it.

I always was of opinion that any rmt should not be allowed and illegal one banned heavily (both sellers and buyers).

Mmorpg market is shifting to other approach though - bit sad for me, cause as I am very strict and conservative about this matters I will propably end up stopping playing mmorpg's at all.
Unless there will be some decent game targetted (or having separate no-rmt servers) for "weirdos" like me.

If not well, there are countless things in the world that I want to spend my money on, so I will not have problem where to put my box+subscription money :)

The biggest problem with the guardian cub is that it is not an item that everyone wants and has a use for. You have to compete to sell, which drives prices down, especially as people who want the pet get it, and demand drops even more.

Don't worry soon WoW will be the same as TF2 and every other update will be nearly all fluff vanity BS. But you can't complain because its free.... wait ..... because it isn't required to play the game..... wait ...... because they don't break all the code that......wait

Oh well just accept its going to be a fun downhill toboggan ride :)

@(Unverified) I'd guess they'll make it so all the new pets are released in a similar manner to keep up demand, but the best thing they could do would be to add subscriptions to the list of things that can be sold in-game.

At the risk of being downvoted into oblivion which would probably actually tickle me some ^^ I'm going to have to throw my hat into the, I'm fairly certain EvE isn't the first MMO to use a PLEX like system....

Mind you I am far too lazy to bother researching into it so there is the slim possibility that I'm mistaken there ..... but so far every time anyone has rushed to the treetops to shout at the moon that "I/WE did this FIRST" they are but a hop skip and a jump (see: google search) from being proven incorrect.

I'm not trying to downplay the "plex mechanic" as it is a fairly sound business strategy but likely not as squeeky fresh as its being portrayed.

@Scuffles I can't confirm for sure that EVE was the first MMO to make a cash-purchaseable good or service tradeable for in-game currency, but I have yet to find an earlier example. EVE may indeed have been the first with the release of PLEX in 2008.

Have to agree with smartstep. I don't know where all this push to free-to-play is coming from (I don't see players asking for it all over game forums) but that is a fundamental game change that I do not want to play.

I play games to escape from the reality I live in. The last thing I want is to constantly have to consider my RL finances while playing a fantasy game. With a subscription the financial decision I make for a game I make once and that's the end of that. In "free"-to-play games your constantly reminded of RL finances and that is no longer an escape for me. If the industry really does go to this model, I'm out of the MMO market.

@The Captain

Depending on the context, you should ALWAYS be aware of your finances. You should always know where your money is going. I definitely don't have the finances to just activate a subscription and never worry about it again. Eventually, I will get tired of the game and cancel it, even if its only temporary.

Ultimately, it depends on how a game wants to make its money in a free game. In city of heroes, aside from their store button on the screen that is easy to ignore, it never reminds me or insist to buy stuff on their store. There is nothing in the store that needs to be bought to enjoy the game.

Granted, I've played it before they added things like crafting and an auction house. What i loved about the game is, and always will be, playing as your own superhero.

Come on are you serious?

Its hard to name a single hobby that you can participate in with any regularity in the world that doesn't involve money.

Gaming, Cooking, Cleaning, Sports, Fishing, Bowling, RPG's, Golf, Drinking... man... they all kinda require money on the reg.

Setting: At some point in the future during a typical MMO conversation.

Bob the Player : "Say, Thanks for dinner! Sorry I didn't have the cash for dinner in my wallet then, but will you accept Guardian Cubs?"

Roscoe D. Franklin the Player : "That's be like four Guardian Cubs since we steak at that place don't come cheap. And really, the care and maintenance of those things online get tedious. Hard enough to put them in your pocket!"

Bob the Player : "What about Dilithium?"

Roscoe the Player : "Man, I just went to the doctor and he said to cut back on dilithium. Been having too much and the radioactivity is affecting my chance to reproduce anymore of the new Franklin generation..."

Bob the Player : "I got it, why not a diamond-studded Guardian Cub with his own Extended Pilot License (PLEX) powered by dilithium?"

Rosce the Player : "Sold!"

How is a cosmetic pet, the winged guardian cub, being called the same as a subscription item that can be bought for in-game gold? This list is either severely biased or severely lacking.

As there are a lot more games that offer rmt items but not very many that offer plex-type items.
