The servers have been down more often than they have been up since they switched over to free to play this week. I wonder how many subscribers will stay around if they don't get their server bandwidth up to par soon.

From what I hear, they've always had stellar server performance. Its just a couple of days with 100.000+ people logging in at once...so Im sure this will not be an ongoing & constant thing.

@tooright Too true Tooright :D Besides anyone who's played a lot of mmos know that these things do happen. It's best to have other games as back ups for those times when your favorite can't be played :D

Is this game any good? I know it's free to try now but I really don't want to spend the time playing it for a week to figure out it's just another mediocre MMO in a different skin. Does it have a very immersive setting? Does it have a lot of fun/interesting play mechanics? What sets this game apart from most other generic MMOs besides the setting?

@TortoiseCan Combat is aim-based rather than tab-based. That's one rather big difference. Quests tend toward the darkly humorous. There's a lot of land to explore, if you're the explorer type. Many of the mobs are unique, from the disgusting prairie chickens to the giant hermit crabs with computer monitor shells and more. Crafting is a huge part of the game. I've played both WoW and LOTRO extensively, and crafting is nothing but a money sink in both games. In FE it's actually useful.

The UI does need a serious overhaul, though. It's as fugly as ever.

Just to add a bit more depth to my question: I'm not an MMO hater - But for example, I can say that LOTRO is very immersive with a very strong story aspect, Wow is polished with amazing mechanics, Rift is very polished with varied class systems - Then there's 500 F2P MMOs that don't really add anything too noteworthy. I guess I'm mainly wondering if this game is noteworthy

@TortoiseCan

It has great immersion, and the quest dialogue is some of the best out there, in my opinion. I'm a big Tolkien fan, and even I got tired of reading the rambling, whimsical in LOTRO. The quest text in FE is very setting-appropriate and concise, without feeling too bland. I really think the writing in the game is under-appreciated.

Whether or not it's worth playing is a personal matter, but I can say that there's not really anything else like it out there, not yet at least. I just wish they can get a handle on the server situation before the weekend is over.

Also, you can restore a Legacy Account by logging into the FE website under my account "Link GamersFirst Account ot Legacy Account". Thats how I got my characters back. And as always..email support!

30 dollars a month?!? so the way they plan to pay for the f2p players is to charge dbl the industry standard to their vets and hardcore players? that seems ...uh terrible.

@Resurge Their pricing tiers are, I believe, $10/$15/$30. The $10/month sub is the same game as what you would've gotten as a previous subscriber. In other words, no improvements over the game as it was a week ago (except only $10/month instead of $15).

@(Unverified) im not neglecting anything, i'm just reading the article. He said he could justify spending 30 bucks a month for auras or something ..and we all know if something that gives you an advantage is available, the hardcore among the game are going to want it, and many will pay it. I think for 15 bucks a month, you should get EVERYTHING ..30/mo is ridiculous to expect any player to pay ..period.

@Resurge lol $30 dollars and I am surprised people are not chanting the usual f2p mantra "pay to win!",which this seems to be the most blatant example of it.So do you get twice the game content for twice the price lol?Or are they just looking for suckers. The fact that they even put that option there speaks loads about them as a company.

Just jumped back in with a new f2p character. I was in beta and came back for a trial, but I haven't kept up on all the changes to PVP. What's the news on the territory control in PVP?

To Tortoise and others who havent yet played Fallen Earth....

There is NO GAME that even comes close to what FE is like. I'ts in a category all its own...

1- You have a few options for your combat :

all players can equip up to 6 different weapons at one time (2h melee, 2h ranged, dual 1h melee and dual 1h ranged) you also get a wide range of abilities that you use by clicking the hotkey and you CAN use them the normal0ish mmo way of clicking the mob and pressing the hotkey

the main combat has two main options - you can have a target recticle, where if you use a weapon or use an ability, as long as the mob is in that target recticle at all, you will do dmg/activate ability

you also can zoom in and play the game (or just fight) in 1st person mode, which is super fun! its very EASY to switch between all the diff modes of combat and gets really smooth after a while

2) SKILL SYSTEm - you gain levels as you gain xp and also AP(skill points)h you can use for stat boosts (strength, armor, healing, etc) and more speicalized stuff (like rifles, melee, pistols, etc..) there are no classes so you can make your character ANY way you want - they also have outlined "class types" that help you put your points in certain areas to get a particular type of character setup

3) crafting - MOST wide-ranging, SIMPLE and absolutely FUN crafting system ive ever seen!!! all materials you need to craft can be bought from vendors in ALL towns(most of them) and all matyerials can also drop from mobs, be mission rewards and are ALL OVER THE WORLD!! need wood or cotton? go pick some from teh fields! need meat? kill some wolves and so on the great thing is that every weapon and piece of equipment in the game CAN BE crafted by players

4) MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE world!!! unlike games like WOW and EQ and oithers, which all create worlds that are 1:5 or 1:10 scale, in FE, everything is realistically built! see a building? you can walk around in EVERY inch of it, climb onto the rooftops, and its exact as if it was real life! same goes for the world! the game is 1000s of REALISTIC miles of terrian

5) variety of envirnments - you get desert/wild west type areas, mountain/hills type canyons. lush forests, small suburban-type towns, smaller cities, and massive nyc/chicago type cities, all realistically built and you just have to see it!

6)pvp - you can fight ANYWHERE in the gameworld, as well as fight in designated "lakes" in multiple spots in every zone and in instanced maps
as you gain power, you can join one of the 6 main factions and fight for territory, control smaller outposts and control entire towns ! all for your faction to gain amazing rewards!

7) FACTIONS- you can play the game and never join a faction completely, so you can experience ALL the diff factions content, or you can work your way up in standing in a faction of your choice to gain new powers and rewards and fight for what you believe in!

8) PVE! the pve in this game is AMAZING!!! there are special events, hunts, patrols, massive npc battles, massive npc faction battles, small instances, massive raid0like instances and all of them are inside, outside, underground, in complexes, etc.. massive variety of well over 200 instances of all sizes

Now, there IS a learning curve- which keeps the gold-farmers and hackers out, as well as a lot of the level-rushing harassers OUT! just so you guys know, as long as you take a few hours to do all the content in your starting town, you will learn everything you need to know and be fine - this isnt eve where it takes 2 months to understand the interface, the inerface is smooth and clean

also, which i think is cool - you can open up an internet browser INSIDE your game window! u can listen to music from there, look up strategiesm, talk on forums ,etc.. its a very cool lil feature

All in all, I have never played a game like FE and it has something for EVERYONE. The great thing about FE is you can spend a dat gathering supplies, crafting, killing animals and baddies of all sorts, run instances all day, pvp in the open world or instanced pvp all day, ANYTHING!!!
THE BEST part of FE is its like a living, breathing world! Once you play for a few hours and see your 2nd or thrid town, you will be amazed at how different of a feeling it is compared to other mmos. You dont feel pressured to get to this or that, you can do whatever yoy want and no matter what you choose to do, it feels like you are supposed to be doing just that!!

Also, there is some amazing RPers (not the sit iin one spot and spew 10 pages of dialogue) i mean people that come up and say hello, have convos all over, have roleplay races on bikes anbd horses, Action-rp instances and pvp and exploring!

Its just an amazing game and i hope you check it out!

LASTLY, its the ONLY f2p game that gives you EVERYTHING FOR FREE!!! ill explain briefly...
free - you get EVERYTHING that subscribers used to get, with a slightly lowered xp rate and 8hrs of crafting per day( which is A LOT)
$10/mo you get EVERYTHING that pervious subscribers got, unlimited crafting and 100% xp rate
$15/mo same as above, but you get a bit of an extra boost in speed to crafting and xp gains

then theres the $29.95 option, which gives you a HUGE bonus to xp gain and crafting and some other small boosts (this is the option for people that want to play 10+ hrs a day and want to get through content faster)

theres something for everyone and noone has an advantage that affects pvp or pve competitively - its great!

www.fallenearth.com whether you play forever or only one day, i guarantee you leave smiling, knowing you have never and will never play another mmorpg like FE!

My char name is Xalonx - ive played for 6 months and have only completed about 5%of the games progressive content! There is THAT MUCH to do!!

GL and see you in the wasteland! Salute!

-X
