Do they capture the magic of the Daoc RvR System?
I thin without SWTOR this could be a broad hit but in the shadow of the giant it may be hard to grow up to the full potential.
But as we all know, dangers lure in shadows so maybe it will becomea threatening opponent giving the "Holy Trinity" a totally new meaning (SWTOR, TSW, GW2)!

@Thorqemada
This game will have three faction PvP unlike SWTOR, which will attract a different crowd altogether I believe. I dont think ToR and TSW are direct competitors in that way. PvPers have an uncanny sense of what game they will choose ultimately and I'm thinking that's not ToR overall.

ToR will get more of the story based, PvE crowd who likes some PvP sprinkled on top. TSW is built three factions off the bat so PvP obviously is the forefront imo.

It's actual going to compete more against Planetside2, Prime: Bfd and ArcheAge I would guess (AA being more open Pvp based).

One of two games I'm actually looking forward toward (the other being GW2). Just wish there was more information coming.

The Launch Date for TSW is more in time with the releases of SWTOR and GW2 isnt it?
Why i think that SWTOR may hinder TSW somewhat is, that TSW may not get players out of the pool of the undecided players even if TSW may fit its niche very well bcs SWTOR has aldready catched them.
Both have a story based gameplay but TSW probably the PvP with more potential.
Well, at least for a few months it looks like a double subscription...until alle the stuff shows its playvalue life.

April 2012. But being Funcom...

Anyways, SW fans are a different bred from what Funcom is shooting for. The lore around TSW is Lovecraftian, if you're familar with that author.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Lovecraft

They are just as different as the typical Warhammer universe lore fan is from Star Wars lore.

A lot of these games coming out are going to depend on one major thing: fan loyalty. There are simply too many coming out and if a fan of say.. Star Wars lore ( I mean a fan) finds the lore good but the gameplay mediocre, that person is still more likely to stay there than go to another game that has better gameplay but lore they don't like.

I know people who won't play SW even if it was guaranteed to be the best mmo evah because they simply. Hate. Star. Wars.

TSW won't have the big figures that SWTOR will have at release but I see it more as a marathonian because it will have more players throughout time where SWTOR will start losing them.

Players like myself are more interested in TSW gameplay because I don't want to play another WoW arena styled pvp and leveled base theme park pve progression again.

Competition is good and 2012 is going to be a good year for MMORPG players.

Funny you should mention "arena style" pvp because they(The Secret World) have a pvp map specifically for "arena style" play. That is how they described it, "arena style".

I love everything that has been said about TSW. The story, world, monsters, feel. I love it all.

Seeing combat footage of these secret socities wearing magically infused or advanced tech armor wielding a......... bright yellow sledge hammer they got from Home Depot kinda ruins it for me.

Templars associated with English knights wielding a katana doesn't fit to me either, but more forgivable than the sledge hammer.

They say they have "thousands of wepaons". I keep seeing the same handful over and over. Except for a screenshot I saw of someone using claws. I hope they give the weapons some work and show them off.

It has what, all of 50 seconds of PvP, some in painfully boring locations (that garage, stonehenge) others that look like they ripped of Aion's fortress sieges? Most of the video is the same old pve and faction stuff we knew?

man, we lap up anything these days don't we?

That's my main concern as well...

I can overlook the fact that any real depth of setting and story is going to be overrun in an avalanche of zergstorm PvP... it's pretty much inevitable based on the information released so far concerning the game's mechanics and systems. Hey, 3 way PvP (or any odd number) has always been my preferred anyway, and even though most players will probably focus on the lore of the game to same extent that a rabid dog would, it would still be there for me and a handful of others... problem is; you're going to charge me a sub AND MTs in a cash shop too? *buzzer sound* WRONG f***ing answer... thanx for playing let's make a deal.

If it doesn't bother enough players (or there are just that many rubes out there) then I'm sure they will do fine, but I'll be damned if I will support that sort of out and out greed from a developer.

@ArcherAvatar

Do you have ANY clue how much cash it takes to make an MMO? How much that number has gone up since the late nineties when the $15 a month standard was established?

Costs increase, and unless you are ok with a $40 sub, studios need to find ways to cover the costs. Now that can be by cutting back on developers to the point where you get a patch every two to three years, cutting back on content, or finding other ways to make money.

You can call me a "rube" if you wish, but I'm for one glad that I can still play a game for just $15. Ya, I don't get everything, but I'm ok with that. If I had to buy everything, even the stuff I don't want, I wouldn't be able to afford to keep playing. There are months where I can afford to drop a few extra $ on a new "thing", and others where I can't, I like that option.

If you want 100% of everything then the solution is rather simple, buy out the cash shop. Get every single goofy hat and black trench coat and you have your $40 a month, everything included sub. I will keep my $15 a month and spend the remaining on things like rent and food, things that keep increasing in price unlike my $15 a month sub.

Not trying to be a troll but the combat seems a little bland and stagnant. Myabe because a lot of the videos I've seen have little snippets of the combat system. Are there any videos out there that show case the combat a bit more?

@deffbee They are holding off on showing the combat system's inner workings until they are done with the motion capture animations. The animators were hired just 2 months ago.

Hard to frame what exactly to think about this game. It seems to be a total wildcard.
