Patch 1.19 is still fresh in the minds of every Final Fantasy XIV player; it was a big change for the game that ushered in a lot of welcome additions and improvements. But not quite everything was ready for prime time when the patch went live, leading to the promise of a patch 1.19a with a few more features. With the patch having just gone live, patch notes for 1.19a have understandably been released, and the latest notes should continue to make players happy with several further updates beyond the obvious elements held over from 1.19.
Aside from the addition of the third beastman stronghold and the implementation of levequest history evaluations, the patch will bring the long-desired feature by which the game remembers your bar layouts when you switch classes rather than forcing you to re-arrange bars each time. There have also been several bugfixes and price reductions on several vendor-sold items across the cities. While this latest bridging patch won't be the game-changer of its predecessor, it should still be welcome when the servers come back online from the patch process.

Prior to this game being released I wanted to try it out so bad. I love FF and it looked like a great MMO. Then the reviews poured in that it was a disaster and I passed on it. With all the patches and updating this game has received is it fun yet?

@drwily81 They are mostly still working on a lot of the core stuff. They still have base stuff to add like FF type jobs and an update to the UI. Mail isn't even in yet and things like the linkshell system needs a lot of work.
It is getting better, though, just slowly. Give it another 6 months to a year and it should really start to get moving.

At the moment, it doesn't measure up with the exception of graphics. There are a lot of better F2P titles to play unless you are a FF fan.
But according to the QnA video that Yoshi hosted, there seems to be a lot of good changes coming. For one, class changes is coming, as well as the flow of the game quests and the remaking of the world paths (map?).
The returning of class changes will be in i believe in patch 1.21, which is prolly towards the end of the year. That might be a better time to try, unless of course you are too busy playing SWTOR.

This game really hurt the image of the FF series.

I just joined for the first time and I am struggling a bit. I am in the starter town with very little idea of what to do. I have quests which actually show me on a map where to go but can't seem to figure out how to get there.
But I'm certainly not giving up. Gonna keep at it. Graphics are exceptional.

@Pingles If you're on Cornelia, you may want to hit up my linkshell (guilds in FFXIV) We're about helping new people get started and learn in a social atmosphere.
When you're on next, Try sending a message via /tell to Captain Kris, Aly Tomoe, Tyrian Shale or Zephyr Rahl. We'll get you on your feet. It really is a fun game, it just isn't kind to newbies.

Time to just trash the thing and start over from scratch. Who did they think they were trying to pass this off to us anyway and as a subscription game no less?
And yes I do get to say this - I'm one of the people who not only bought it but paid for a silly special edition so basically I blew a lot of money on a game that didn't play nearly as good as all the free to play games out nor have as much content. It basically looked very pretty and that was it.
I'm not even that mad anymore. And no it's not because of the free play time - I uninstalled it about a month after I bought it as it wasn't even worth playing totally free to me.
You guys voted down that person above who said this game hurt the image of the FF series - he's just quoting Square-Enix themselves! That's what they said and you vote him down? Well whatever :D
I just want them to dump the game entirely and re-start it. This was a huge failure. These things happen. Time to throw the garbage out rather than band-aid it up, start over from the beginning. It doesn't look like it's still that great it looks like a piece of garbage covered in band-aids now. You can't undo the core blandness of the game so please just ditch it and start again.

@MewmewGirl
Seems like ppl who are really unhappy are ones who bought the CE.
I, for one, fully support Square attempt in fixing this game for the reason below:
- It is a matter of letting ppl know that Square acknowledges the mistake that they made. And they would go thru great cost to fix it. At the end of the day, if they failed, at least they tried. It cannot get worst than now. If FF14 did turned good, then they can regain our confidence.
- Does it damage FF franchise? Maybe? But I would say that FF13 done enough damage before FF14 started.
- There is no sub.
- Yoshi-P is an awesome manager. I really hope that he can bring the game to his vision, cuz I want to see that vision too.

@Tyrang Very happy with my collectors edition.
Mewmew is spewing uninformed crap, of course. Like most people still butthurt about launch. It was a YEAR ago. and all they've done in that year is make massive changes to fix the game. ANYTHING can be made good with the right attention and care.
People with no creative talent or dedication aren't able to comprehend this.
DURR HURR throw it out and start again! Throw out all the wonderful assets, story, lore, Cutscenes, and why exactly? cause you're sore about a rocky launch?
The game has come really far, if you've not played it in the last few weeks, you're in no position to talk about it with any form of authority.

Pretty much. Also, their refusal to ditch it means she won't have to buy whatever they'd replace it with. If this one turns out good enough for her despite her current naysaying, she's already paid for it. Besides, the real damage to the Final Fantasy brand would be to allow a numbered instalment that bombed hard but has the means to be fixed just get dropped. That would be a black mark that could never be erased.

I really can't help but cheer for this game to ultimately succeed. For one, I like Yoshi-P. Secondly, I love FFXI. Thirdly, the Sultana of Ul'dah is freaking adorable and the game should survive based on her cuteness alone.
Also, female Roegadyn and male Miqo'te.

I hope they implement male Miqo'te as playable. Same for female Rogaedyn, though it's hard to imagine what they'll look like.
And just for the giggles: http://www.creativeuncut.com/forum/ffxiv_roegadyn_female.jpg

While I do think FFXIV bombed hard, I applaud the team trying their hardest to rebuild this game. My only real concern is, when they finally put back in monthly fees, how many people will stay around?

It seems every patch gives me mixed emotions about coming back to try it. Implementations like " the game remember[ing] your bar layouts when you switch classes rather than forcing you to re-arrange bars each time", that should have been around since the release of a game centered around switching your class on the fly; reminds me yet again of how far SquareEnix fell. And that reminder is enough to scare my money back in my pocket. But on the other hand, maybe this one fix is the one that tips the game from terrible to playable.
This is truly like a breakup with a girl. One who was pretty cool at first. Then messed up big on a no-brainer. But all her attempts to persuade you that this time she has changed only reminds you how unreasonable she was to expect to fool you in the first place. But just like FFXIV she has good graphics, if you know what I mean.
