If you're a Silver-tier Champions Online player who's always wanted to play a premium archetype but can't quite scrounge up the coin, furbish up your superhero tights and get ready to roll a new character. Cryptic Studios has today announced a limited-time promotion that allows free players to test out selected pay archetypes for the grand total of absolutely nothing.
The Savage archetype is first up; he's accessible for seven days starting today, followed by a week each for the Void, the Master, the Inventor, the Tempest, and the Devastator. If you roll a character to try out the weekly premium archetype, you can either retrain him as the next trial archetype (or any other free or previously purchased archetype) or pony up for the premium one after you've tested him out in person.
As an added bonus, Cryptic is offering all players a free character slot -- just log in between October 14th and November 3rd and claim yours through the C-Store's "bonus" tab.

That sounds cool if I'm reading it right.
One month of trying all the "pay" builds free, one week at a time.

Umm, no SPECIALIST??? Oh well, no point then.
I'm hoping they come up with a Batman-type AT. I used to have a character like that before the f2p destruction(i mean conversion). Unfortunately, it was accidentially deleted by my lil girl and even though I petioned Cryptic a few hrs later and every day since they. they have refused to restore my character, and hvent even responded!!!
CO - great game for your first time playing through content. Though, the customer service is lacking, since ,as we all know, the devs at Cryptic are SOOOOOO LAZY and jaded, only third behind Mythic and Soe's devs.
GET SPECIALIST!!! the deadpool/deathstroke AT!!

I love how hundreds of people will rush to pile on Cryptic/CO when they think they're doing something bad, but as soon as news breaks that they're giving away free character slots and free trials of premium content, what do you get? The Three Stooges. Sheesh.

Never underestimate people's right/need to b*tch.
Besides, keep in mind the naysayers, trolls, whiners, or whatever you want to call them don't represent everyone, or even the majority in most cases, just the people who cry the loudest.

I was under the assumption we all knew that Cryptic sucked as a company and that they needed to puill a Flagship as fast as humanly possible after making the game one of the biggest Pay To Wins (outside of anything made by Perfect World) I've ever seen. They make you pay for archetypes, even though they're gimp versions of what VIPs get (IE, the power to actually customize your character)... and to be competitive or viable for end-game/pvp, you HAVE to pay them monthly.
Just another crappy Pay To Win, or Unlimited Trial, whatever you want to call it. I believe I'll stick with LOTRO... since they give you Cash Shop money in-game, which pretty much balances everything automatically.

It’s their business model that makes me hesitant to spend money on champions as opposed to the game itself. The archetype system is one major example of this as it locks out one of the major draws of the game unless you’re willing to commit to a subscription. I’m subscribed to DDO as a VIP, but if turbine were to lock premium members into those lame preset character paths, it would drive me closer toward quiting than anything else they’ve done this year.
