Wake me when we have the ability to crew together on one vessel. You know, actual MMO stuff.

Explorable, decorateable ship interiors would be nice too.

This should be a nice long nap.

@Ardra Diva I've got an Ensign opening in the ship's janitorial corps. Interested?

No, you don't. The game does not allow it.

They'll work on that as soon as all the other game companies allow multiple people to control a single character. You'll need a different person for each leg, so teamwork will be required just to get to get places. You also need people to swing the arms and hit stuff, but that won't do you any good if the person controlling the eyes has them closed.

It's a good thing there is never a time when more than one ship teamed up to get something done. Oh wait. The game allows you to team up and go on away missions together. Both have been there from the start. And the interior is explorable. You have the ability to have a bunch of different bridges and if I'm not mistaken you can when trophies to disply in one of the rooms.

Good morning.

Probably your best post to date. In the past your sugar coating has reached nausea inducing levels. This was a much better, balanced article, hope it continues.

"unlocked Tribble"

Unlocked to who? Paying players lol

Tribble has always been unlocked. When I read your article I thought I would take a look at the game, since I cancelled it a while ago because they screwed up PvP and quit.

It's LOCKED!

@Drak

I believe he was saying that the cstore was unlocked in tribble. You have never had access to the cstore for tribble characters before.

@Drak yeah might wanna check to see what's happening to the game before you comment again. Holodeck is live game, Tribble is F2P testing only and Redshirt is now the patch server after F2P launches. So, no the Cstore has never been opened on the F2P testing before now, and yes while Tribble is unlocked only for paying members Redshirt will be available for everyone who signs up for it. Unless they changed that.

I'm sorry, but looking through the forums even now? Passion is on show, but a decent portion isn't exactly positive. It seems like for every person who actually feels like the game will be cool and are happy to go F2P are one or two that are screaming against some meager little aspect of things. A good few of the Everquest II people were pretty elitist about their game's switch and the paying aspect of it, but even they didn't yell this loud about how they figure they should get so much more than freebie players. I mean, come on, even a portion of the lifetime subscribers are turning on pay per month people like jackals over the last piece of meat, trying to get the most entitlements.

It's like watching people who are screaming that they're right about the end of the world. They want so desperately to be right that they kind of forget that, oh, hey, if you're right, the world ENDS. Some of these guys want the F2P (and thus STO in general) to completely fail so bad so they can be right that they don't realize that the game would be pretty worse off if all this comes to naught.

I'll be playing when it goes free to play and this furor will likely calm when it switches over, but ye gods. I wouldn't be claiming a lot of rational feedback when you get the amount of white noise between those particular posts.

@Controlled Chaos

That's what happens when segregating players into categories, that's especially bad cause there are money involved. Not a big surprise it happened and it kinda will be always present in freemium games.

Some will bitch about how they should get more for subscription , non-subscribed will bitch about how subscription is getting too much / or how they staying non-subscribed are having better deal and subscribed one are suckers.

etc, etc

@Controlled Chaos

I really should go back to the STO forums and witness this. I was such a forum jockey at Beta and after Launch. Trying to be moderate and all that.

Glad to see The Grand Nagus is still at it and I think you use the cat on the forums, too? I kinda miss it, but I also burned out about 3 months after Launch. The difficulty slider was such a "fight". (I went by another name on the Cryptic/STO forums.)

This love to hate rubbish is just that rubbish. People complain about this game because it is a horrible excuse of a simplistic garbage not being worth the name of Star Trek. And no amount of patching is going to change that because the game is fundamentally flawed.

If CBS/Paramount is preventing an appearance tab or upgrade for ships I think Cryptic is pretty much stuck. Charging a lot for low level ships that you'll outgrow is ridiculous.

Fortunately the ship token issue has pretty much been resolved now, with the exception of VA. So here is my suggestion to solve the last VA ship: 31 days = VA token. To explain,

VA ships costs 2k CP(c-points). 2k CP costs $25. They dont want people going gold for 1 month, which only cost $15, to get the free VA token and then canceling, because that would give you a $10 cheaper way to get a VA ship when you got to that rank.

However, if someone is subscribed for 2 months that = $30, meaning Cryptic gets the $25 they would normally get for buying 2k CP and an extra $5. However, a person wouldnt actually have to wait 2 full months before they got their VA token, they would only need to wait until they were billed the 2nd time.

You are billed every 30 days, so that means after 31 days as a gold member you would qualify for your free VA token. How does that sound?

It's getting there. I've been a lifer since launch and I doubt many other game companies Cryptic's size could pump out new features like this.

The game has changed so much since launch, and I am really looking forward to what the game looks like at its "re-launch". Should be quite epic :)

Theres still a few things that are...not so good, but from what I can tell, they are working on it (Skill revamp for one).

I can accept the VA pricing under the new model. I think it works it gets them revenue and is no different then gaining a battle mount in other games via purchases in store. Paying members will get a stipend and get a VA discount token. I like this idea.

It's a similar model to LOTRO imo. I'm a lifer so it works out well for both the sub and the lifer crowd and if they F2P crowd wishes to do the more advanced stuff end game or pvp they can pay a one time fee. It's a win win.
