I saw this movie years ago. Get Alan Smithee or something with the Monty Python guy.

Didn't quite get the humor then so glad you explained it. :)

Vindictus would probably fit that description. You can't really pay to win and they don't really push the cash shop very hard. If you like the combat it is a pretty fun game.

First off, no one knows what Utakata would consider "immersive". That's an extremely subjective term that means totally different things to different people.

That said, Forsaken World actually fits all the criteria in my opinion. Everything in the cash shop can be bought with in-game gold since the cash shop currency and the in-game currency are exchangeable, and all of the items for sale are either convenience items (reusable potions, XP boosts, etc.) or cosmetic items like mounts and cosmetic gear. The game world is lush and well fleshed out., and I've never had a problem with the community in my time there.

I would second your suggestion of Fallen Earth. Awesome community, great game, and a very hands-off Freemium model. Same goes for City of Heroes. Some might not consider it immersive because it's mostly lobby + instance, but I don't have that problem. It's an extremely fun game with a community that's only ever been matched by LotRO for friendliness and helpfulness.

I wouldn't recommend Allods, though. It's very pretty but I didn't care for the gameplay at all. It feels like it takes forever to kill things and it gets really grindy later on. I reeeeally wanted to get high enough level to get one of those amazing Astral Ships but I just couldn't do it. The grind was just too soul-crushing.

@Ghostspeaker

That is a good point. So I guess my sense of immersion is not having to be reminding I need to swipe a RL credit card in anything I do. As well as to fully engage the world before me that I get caught up in it. Although your reply suggests that my idea and your idea of such is pretty close. And you have given some good answers I will follow up in.

The only thing is that I already play CoX (Lev. 5 veteran for what that's worth)...though I am using their subscription option currently. But I will certainly look into the others.

My question though is do I have to box buy Fallen Earth and LoTRO before hand? I am not sure those games would be free to download like Vindictus or Allods I presume.

@Utakata

Glad I could be helpful. And no, you don't have to buy a box for either Fallen Earth or LotRO. I've been playing Fallen Earth all day (when the server's been up anyway, lol; it just went F2P yesterday so things are a little crazy still) and never bought a box. I did buy the LotRO box back in the day before it went F2P, but I also have a second account that I started later and never bought the box for it.

@Ghostspeaker

Thanks very much again. I may take a look at Fallen Earth if that's the case. :)

I don't think he was actually looking for a game, seems more like he was trying to say that the model is wrong.

@Dumac

I certainly wasn't looking for a troll to reply to my question, that's for sure.

...either way, I am still looking over the replies. Thanks for all those including by Mr. Lefebvre for taking the the time to answer that. I wasn't quite sure the level of criteria I put down was too high. But it looks like from answers (sans the one above) there some well thought out replies. Thus I have lots to comb thew! Thanks again! :)

@Utakata
Wow.

It's a legitimate assumption given your level of criteria, as admitted. And almost all of it exclusively related to the f2p model. How am i not supposed to assume that you went for satire?

In all probability you just did it again.

You do know that was an edited version of my original question, right? I'm not sure they wanted the original 5 million worded dissertation I gave to squeeze up there in that tiny space. So I can't blame them for cutting out this disclaimer, which adequately addresses your concern:

"This also comes compounded by the fact that I have demonstrated in my responses to Massively a very big distrust for F2P's, but I like to keep an open mind and least try one."

Soruce: http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/06/ask-massively-unpopular-decisions-edition/2#comments

So this is not a joke. And L2research before making erroneous and slanderous claims in future. Thankx.

@Eliot Lefebvre

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain that to me. I appreciate it. So you know, I was debating of posting that question to Rise & Shiney instead. Though I wonder if would been too off-topic. Although I may ask the shortened version of my question over there if I want more titles.

So as it stands....the list of suggestions looks like this:

B2P: Guild Wars

Freemium: Fallen Earth, City of Heroes & Lord of The Rings Online

F2P: Allods Online, Ryzom, Vindictus and *Mabinogi

*Note: One I have been interested in sometime as well.

One small question about Vindictus (and thanks to Agnaro for the suggestion) before I leave: Is the character creator similar to Rusty Hearts, where I am stuck with a pre-set character unless I customize by paying thew the nose?
