Advertisements , advertisements.

F2P is better for news sites like this since can have more cash from advertisements like this news. *sigh*

Monetarization, kinda started to sound dreadful for me as a player.

Want this in game? Shell a bit of $. Want that? Pay 15 $ and it is "yours".

Games are more like social hubs, and showing off that "achieving something and actually playing a game".

Not something I want to be part of.

Hope there will be enough similarly thinking player in future that there will be some comapnies making games for us, without "spend dollars to get things!" awful ideas...

@smartstep I kinda know what you mean. It seems like half the 'news' we're getting (not just from this site) lately is announcing more items for sale. Between the starships, hero lairs, guardian cubs, spiked choppers, new champions, and now Pegasus mounts I feel like I'm just being peppered with buy buy buy ads.

The marketing teams for these games are smart, they're announcing stuff as 'news' and taking advantage of getting free advertising for their virtual market places on sites like this without having to pay for them.

@smartstep I kinda thought that might be true, especially the way Cryptic's subpar games get a ton mentioning, but nobody seems to play those games or comment about them much.

This doesn't look like it flies as you'd think a flying mount would. I mean can you really "soar about the land" or just float above the ground like levitate.

@Celestian There is no real flight in EQ1 as it would require them reworking the engine. Instead EQ1 has levitation for players and mounts, so basicly it's a flying horse that can't fly. There are some people bought the mount and upset about this as if they expected grandfather EQ1 to suddenly have an engine upgrade with no testing, patching, announcement, etc. ;-p

Let me guess, this thing costs more than the standard cost of a one month sub.

@Ryukan Thats what im wondering, what is "a bit of cash" ?

The official EQ forum post doesnt mention it, neither does this article... not a good sign.

who cares it's F2P and F2P is awesome!!!

After all it's ONLY COSMETIC!

in all seriousness there are super easily obtainable flying mounts already in this game so it's just a sparkle-pony ripoff without the sparkles.

@Faith

Yeah, good example.

Note - that this site don't really have banners and ads that sites as popular as this would have. It is simply because ads have forms of 'news' here.
It is not any secret. Many sites as this in other industries.
Even paper magazines, like f.e. those cheap, color, magazines for womans about celebrities life and fashion &cosmetics do exactly same.

Well anyway quite common in media.
