You can build your castle, show it to your friends, and craft things like potions or armor. You can follow the game's story and its characters. You can trade and barter with friends by visiting their towns. And you have to defend your town against beasts who are outside the walls. The game has more personalized storytelling; players explore the world around them. You meet characters and make them happy and unlock new characters as you progress.Chief executive Mark Pincus echoed his company's bold plans: "We want to give you more of a World of Warcraft feeling, but packaged up in something you can understand in three clicks and five or 15 minutes."

Zynga, maker of social games FarmVille and CityVille, has declared its intention to take the plunge into the MMO market with a new game: CastleVille. "Zynga is bringing massively multiplayer role-playing games to the mass market," creative director Bill Jackson announced from Zynga's San Francisco HQ. What game mechanics justify calling the game an MMO? According to Jackson:

fact that there's not more then one person on your screen at one time that is being controlled by human makes it not an mmo

Right before I left Rift, I did allthe Chronicles which were a solo/duo dungeon.
I was the only one playing on my screen yet, I was still playing a mmo.

@real65rcncom Maybe so, but when you left those dungeons or went to town you saw other people moving on your screen. Also you had the ability if you wanted to play with others in your instance you just choose not too.
That is what makes an MMO, Zynga games don't offer that ever so until they can do something like that like that iphone game that got ported to facebook then they can't call themself a mmo.

I'm sure I see what makes this more of an MMO then Farmville or Frontierville? Other then waving WoW's banner and just plain making it

I would imagine it is more of a competitor to stuff like Maplestory Adventures and the Sims Social than WoW.

I regularly make fun of people in the comments for boycotting a company for whatever reason.
But I have to admit Zynga's on my list. No thanks.

What a complete load of crap. I don't see where it's any different from the rest of their games and am confident it will follow their tried and true formula with little variation. They're just trying to generate a little hype by claiming it's vaguely a MMO when it's no different from their usual products.

Maybe they should compare FrontierVille to Red Dead Redemption while they are at it. Because, hey man, you can like club snakes in Frontierville and in Red Dead you can shoot animals and both games are played by people and their friends so they're totally the same genre of game. Right?

So its like EVE Online but with no moving ships or outer space but castles and towns that don't go anywhere on wheels or anything like that? Still, it's a step in the right direction.

I will probably try it. Will I play it forever, I doubt it.
